Role Overview (EPA Certification Required)

Step into a hands-on field role that keeps Reddy Ice In-store Baggers (ISB) running at peak performance in retail locations and company facilities. As a Commercial Ice Systems Field Service Technician, you’ll blend refrigeration know-how with electro‑mechanical troubleshooting to install, service, and optimize ISB machines so our customers have ice when they need it most.

A Day in the Life

You begin the day routed to your first store, arriving in uniform, on time, and ready to work. Safety first: you operate the company vehicle responsibly and follow all Policies, Programs & Procedures. On-site, you verify the ISB is producing to capacity, perform preventive maintenance—de-scaling and sanitizing ice makers, inspecting and replacing worn bagger components—and restore overall cleanliness. When production dips, you diagnose issues using schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation, then repair ice makers, baggers, and related controls, including low‑voltage systems and PLCs. You may complete an install, swap, or removal before lunch, then head to a refurbishment center or plant/DC to support additional work. Throughout the day, you communicate with store personnel to plan around peak demand, capture SOP reports on your handheld, and keep your vehicle’s parts inventory organized. You finish by sharing improvement ideas with the Field Equipment Service Manager and joining a quick team huddle via video to swap best practices. Professional, courteous, and customer‑centric—that’s your calling card.

What You’ll Do

  • Ensure ISB machines meet production targets and customer demand.
  • Troubleshoot and repair ISB equipment (ice makers and baggers) via field service calls.
  • Install, replace, and remove ISB units at customer locations.
  • Execute preventive maintenance: de‑scale and sanitize ice makers; inspect/replace bagger components; maintain cleanliness.
  • Interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documents to maintain and repair production equipment.
  • Work across retail stores, Reddy Ice plants/DCs, and refurbishment centers.
  • Participate in company-sponsored technician trainings; continuously develop new trade skills.
  • Maintain vehicle/tools; manage van inventory and request replenishment as needed.
  • Partner with store teams to schedule around peak demand and deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Recommend SOP improvements; exchange best practices via video or conference calls.
  • Operate with professionalism and safety: drive lawfully, report incidents immediately, follow PPE and safety protocols.
  • Collaborate as a strong team player and assist others when needed.
  • Uphold the Code of Business Ethics and follow individual store policies and procedures.

Essential Mental Functions and Skills

  • Read and interpret English-language safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Remain constantly alert and work safely without fatigue.
  • Accurately judge time and distance.
  • Quickly retain and recall short-term instructions.
  • Focus on tasks requiring strong cognitive judgment and decision-making.
  • Adapt rapidly to changing environments, emergencies, or alarms.
  • Demonstrate a committed, safety-first mindset.
  • Possess fast reflexes, steady coordination, and the ability to respond rapidly to stimuli.
  • Be free of mental/physical impairments that could compromise safe and competent performance.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to changing operating conditions.
