Commercial HVAC & Plumbing Estimator - Great Benefits!

Mechanical & Plumbing Systems is growing, and we’re looking for a highly skilled Commercial HVAC & Plumbing Estimator to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, strong with takeoffs and pricing, and understands the full life cycle of mechanical and plumbing estimating — from conceptual budgets to hard bid proposals. You’ll work directly with our leadership team, general contractors, subcontractors, and vendors to produce accurate, competitive, and professional estimates for commercial projects across Texas.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed HVAC and plumbing estimates, including labor, material, equipment, subcontractor pricing, and general conditions.
• Perform comprehensive takeoffs from plans, specifications, and scope documents using digital tools (Bluebeam, PlanSwift, etc.).
• Develop and manage proposal packages, clarifications, inclusions/exclusions, and value-engineering options.
• Review mechanical and plumbing drawings to confirm scope accuracy and identify conflicts, risks, and cost impacts.
• Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to obtain accurate equipment and material pricing (RTUs, chillers, boilers, pumps, VAVs, ductwork, piping, fixtures, etc.).
• Build conceptual budgets from limited design information when full drawings are not available.
• Work closely with the operations team to ensure estimates reflect real labor productivity, constructability, and field conditions.
• Participate in pre-bid meetings and site walks as needed.
• Maintain and update historical cost data, production rates, and internal estimating tools.
• Assist project managers during turnover to ensure a smooth transition from estimate to construction.
  

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience estimating commercial HVAC and/or plumbing projects.
• Strong understanding of mechanical and plumbing systems, including ductwork, hydronics, piping, equipment, fixtures, and controls.
• Proficient with digital takeoff software (Bluebeam, PlanSwift, QuoteSoft, FastPIPE, etc.).
• Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, submittals, and schedules.
• Knowledge of local codes, AHJ requirements, and standard industry practices.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously.
• Excellent communication skills — written and verbal.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating in a team environment.

Preferred Experience

• Experience with design-build and negotiated projects, not just hard bids.
• Familiarity with commercial markets such as schools, office spaces, tenant finish-out, industrial, municipal, and medical.
• Existing relationships with North Texas suppliers and vendors.
• Understanding of value engineering, life-cycle cost considerations, and HVAC equipment selections.
