Commercial Fire Alarm & Security Technician


Location: DMV Area (Washington, DC / Maryland / Northern Virginia)

We are seeking an experienced Commercial Fire Alarm & Security Technician to join our commercial low-voltage team serving the greater Washington, DC-Maryland-Virginia (DMV) market. This is a full-time field-based role for a technician with 2-5 years of hands-on experience installing, programming, and servicing fire alarm, intrusion/security, access control, and CCTV systems.


The ideal candidate can independently program and service Honeywell and DMP security platforms and is comfortable working in commercial environments across the DMV region.


Key Responsibilities

  • Install, program, test, and service commercial fire alarm systems, including control panels, initiating devices, notification appliances, and associated low-voltage wiring in accordance with applicable codes
  • Install, program, and troubleshoot intrusion/security systems, including programming Honeywell and DMP panels (zone configuration, communications, user codes, schedules)
  • Install and service IP and analog CCTV systems, including cameras, NVRs/DVRs, network switches, and related infrastructure; perform basic IP/network troubleshooting
  • Perform scheduled inspections, testing, and preventive maintenance on fire alarm, intrusion, access control, and CCTV systems; document deficiencies and corrective actions
  • Read and interpret plans, riser diagrams, and wiring schematics to lay out devices, pull cable, and complete terminations to company standards
  • Diagnose and resolve system faults and communication issues; communicate findings clearly with customers and project managers
  • Configure and verify central-station communications (IP/cell/POTS), coordinate with monitoring centers for signal testing and account setup/changes, and resolve failed or missing signals
  • Complete job documentation, test forms, as-builts, and service tickets accurately and on time using company software or mobile apps
  • Work independently or as part of a small crew on commercial projects throughout the DMV area
  • Participate in on-call rotation or occasional after-hours/emergency service as needed

Requirements

  • 2-5 years of recent field experience installing, programming, and servicing low-voltage systems: fire alarm, intrusion/security, CCTV, and preferably access control
  • Demonstrated experience programming Honeywell and DMP intrusion/security systems
  • Experience setting up and troubleshooting central-station communications (account programming, test signals, communicators)
  • Familiarity with major fire alarm and security brands and the ability to quickly learn additional platforms
  • Strong understanding of low-voltage installation practices: cable pulling, terminations, labeling, device mounting, and testing
  • Ability to read construction drawings, one-line/riser diagrams, and equipment submittals
  • Working knowledge of basic fire alarm and security code requirements (or ability to ramp up quickly)
  • Ability to pass a background check for DCJS or other jurisdiction compliance requirements
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
  • Ability to pass background and drug screening as required by customers
  • Ability to lift equipment, work on ladders and lifts, and safely navigate active construction and occupied commercial sites

Preferred Qualifications

  • NICET II or higher in Fire Alarm Systems, or actively pursuing it
  • Manufacturer training or certifications on Honeywell and/or DMP systems
  • Experience with access control systems and integrated security platforms
  • Experience in commercial environments (office, retail, industrial, education, healthcare)
  • OSHA-10/30 or other safety training

Work Environment

  • Field-based role servicing commercial buildings across Washington, DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia
  • Work performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, ladder work, and use of lifts
  • Regular lifting and carrying of equipment and materials
  • Exposure to construction environments and occupied commercial sites while following safety procedures
  • Occasional evening or weekend work for inspections, service calls, or system cutovers
