Commercial Finance, Business Analyst

Position Overview

The Business Analyst will report directly to the Senior Director, Revenue Management and will not have any direct reports. This individual performs financial analysis and provides insight into top accounts total revenue trends, this individual's mission will be to drive meaningful insights to inform effective decision-making, be responsible to design, build, and maintain dashboards and operationalize data. You will be on the forefront of accelerating our data-driven culture. This role provides extensive opportunity to work cross-functionally not only with Sales, Marketing, CS, but also Finance, Product, and IT.

Responsibilities

Data Collection and Management (30%)

This role will be responsible to gather data from various internal and external sources, such as sales, marketing, finance, customer feedback, and industry trends. Ensuring that data is accurate, complete, and free from errors. This involves data preprocessing, identifying missing or inconsistent data, and resolving discrepancies. BI Analysts work with data from different systems and integrate them into a centralized database or data warehouse, ensuring that data can be easily accessed and analyzed.

  • Data Analysis and Interpretation - use historical data to generate insights into past business performance, helping to understand trends, patterns, and anomalies, track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs), such as revenue, sales growth, customer acquisition, and others, to identify emerging trends.

  • Reporting and Visualization - design and maintain interactive dashboards that provide real-time insights and KPIs, making it easier for business leaders to monitor performance.

Corporate Price and Margin Database Management (30%)

Design and build corporate margin database to support the companies shift to value-based pricing and Configure-Price-Quote system.

  • Manage revenue and cost inputs into corporate Margin Database

  • Validate and ensure margin integrity by line of business

  • Build and maintain contribution margin, branch margin and operating profit by account and line of business

  • Develop and continuously monitor changes average trip rates and revenue per trip to inform rates for the pricing organization

  • Develop and monitor route density and distance scoring by customer location

  • Support database reporting for senior leadership and operations

Special Projects (20%)

Initially special projects may consume a higher percentage of time while we streamline current processes to better support the sales growth initiatives.

  • Special projects will be assigned to continuously improve the commissions processes.

  • This role will be expected to both develop ideas and execute on business requirements.

Revenue and Operations Analysis and Observations (20%)

This role will help identify key trends in customer level revenue movement. This will include:

  • New sales that grow customer level revenue.

  • Customer behaviors or contract changes that impact current and future revenue.

  • Company initiatives such as surcharges and price changes.

  • Revenue trends such as days in the month, holidays and other seasonal revenue items.

  • Identify changes in customer trends in non-revenue operational activities that may impact future revenue.

  • Offer opinion or recommendations to increase or reduce decreases in customer revenues.

  • Maintain and validate monthly corporate Operations reporting

  • Provide weekly operations, sales and revenue analysis for US senior leadership team with executive summary

  • Support Monthly and Quarterly executive business reviews

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 2-3 years' business experience.

  • Experience supporting sales an asset.

  • Ability to work independently and develop ideas for continuous improvement.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • High level of cognitive ability.

  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and databases (Salesforce, Snowflake SQL, PowerBI) an asset

  • Strategic View - maintaining a broad view of the organization and identifying changes and improvements needed at each level to improve efficiency and effectiveness and to take advantage of opportunities.

  • Business Acumen - Understanding, communicating and making decisions using business rationale.

  • Data Modeling & Reporting - designing reports that provide meaningful insights to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Data Analysis & Interpretation - Ability to analyze large datasets, identify trends, and interpret data to derive actionable insights.

  • Achieving Business Results - Improving business performance by communicating performance measures, clarifying the financial implications of decisions, and taking action to optimize resources and work processes.

  • Growth Mindset: Intellectual curiosity that questions "the why" and suggests new innovative ways to leverage data operationally such as ML and AI.

  • Teamwork - Self-directed team player who can collaborate effectively in a team environment.
