Job Brief

Star Flooring & Remodeling is hiring a Commercial Division Manager to lead our contract, new construction, and commercial project business. This is a senior leadership role with full P&L accountability for the division. You will supervise our commercial project management and estimating team, own the customer relationships that drive our pipeline, and be evaluated on revenue, gross margin, and division growth.

We are looking for a proven commercial flooring operator who is ready to run a business from day one. This is not a training role.

Compensation

  • Base salary: $85,000 to $125,000 annually, depending on experience
  • Performance-based commission on division gross profit; strong performers OTE $150,000 to $200,000
  • Vehicle allowance or company vehicle
  • Health benefits, unlimited PTO, retirement plan
  • Pay range disclosed per California SB 1162

Required Experience

  • 15+ years in commercial flooring, contract flooring, or closely related commercial specialty subcontracting trade
  • Proven track record closing commercial and new construction projects at the GC and developer level
  • Direct experience managing at least 3 project managers or estimators
  • Estimating fluency across carpet, LVT, sheet vinyl, hardwood, resilient, tile, stone, and specialty flooring products
  • Strong knowledge of flooring and tile installation methods, materials, and site requirements
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications
  • Working knowledge of California prevailing wage, DIR registration, and public works project requirements
  • Fluent in construction contracts, retention, lien releases, and insurance / bond requirements
  • Comfortable running a P&L and reporting to ownership on the numbers
  • OSHA 10-hour certification (30-hour strongly preferred)
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills

Responsibilities

  • Own the commercial and contract division P&L: revenue, gross margin, operating performance
  • Lead, coach, and hold accountable the commercial project management and estimating team
  • Cultivate and grow relationships with general contractors, developers, architects, property management firms, school districts, and municipal buyers
  • Represent Star at industry events, trade associations, and networking functions
  • Personally lead high-value estimates and bids above a defined project threshold
  • Own the sales process for the division: cold outreach, relationship-based selling, account expansion, and pipeline development
  • Manage installer scheduling capacity in coordination with operations
  • Ensure jobs close out on time, on budget, and at target margin
  • Report weekly to ownership on pipeline, WIP, backlog, and revenue forecast

Strong Pluses

  • Existing relationships with San Diego general contractors, developers, and builders
  • An established book of accounts you would bring with you. Any existing customer relationships that would follow you here are a significant asset, but not required
  • Experience with flooring industry software such as RollMaster, MeasureSquare, Cyncly, or Comp-U-Floor. Note: our team is currently transitioning to a new platform, so adaptability to new systems matters more than fluency in any single one
  • Ambitious, team-oriented, driven to build something bigger

What Success Looks Like

  • Division revenue grown meaningfully over the first 12 months
  • Gross margin held at or above baseline
  • At least 5 new GC or developer relationships opened in year one
  • A visible, forecastable pipeline the ownership team can rely on
  • A commercial team that runs cleanly, hits deadlines, and closes out jobs the right way
