Job description:
Wallace Electric Company is currently hiring highly skilled Lead Electricians. The Commercial & Industrial Lead Electrician will oversee electrical installations, maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting across commercial construction and industrial environments. This role directs job‑site electrical crews, ensures safety and code compliance, and supports project management through scheduling, planning, documentation, and quality control. The Lead Electrician acts as the technical authority on-site and ensures projects are completed efficiently and to specification.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise electricians, apprentices, and subcontractors on commercial and industrial job sites.
- Train and mentor team members to elevate skills, safety, and job performance.
- Assign daily work tasks, inspect completed work, and ensure compliance with project specifications.
- Serve as the primary site contact for inspectors, engineers, facility staff, and general contractors.
Commercial & Industrial Electrical Work
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot:
- Transformers, switchgear, panels, and distribution systems
- Lighting systems and lighting controls
- Motor Control Center, Variable Frequency Drive, and industrial equipment
- PLC wiring, control circuits, and automation systems
- Conduit systems (e.g., EMT, RMC, PVC, flex, specialty conduit)
- Backup power systems including UPS and generators
- Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics, and diagrams.
- Perform advanced testing, diagnostics, and verification of electrical systems.
Project Coordination
- Work with project managers to plan manpower, materials, tooling, and scheduling.
- Track progress, identify potential issues early, and provide daily updates.
- Maintain accurate records including:
- Redlines
- Daily logs
- Material usage
- Change orders
- Assist with estimating and pre‑planning upcoming scope.
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce OSHA, NFPA 70E, NEC, and company safety standards.
- Conduct daily safety briefings and hazard assessments.
- Ensure proper PPE use and safe execution of energized and de‑energized work.
- Identify hazards and take corrective actions immediately.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
These KPIs measure performance, productivity, compliance, and leadership effectiveness.
Project Execution & Quality
- Project Completion Accuracy: 95% of work completed with zero rework related to workmanship.
- Blueprint/Spec Compliance: 2% deviation from design without approved change orders.
- Inspection Pass Rate: 98%+ passed on first inspection (local authority, QA/QC, engineering).
Productivity & Efficiency
- Labor Utilization: Maintain crew productivity within ±10% of labor estimates.
- Task Completion Rate: Minimum 90% of tasks completed on or ahead of schedule.
- Material Efficiency: 3% material waste or unaccounted material loss per project.
Safety Performance
- Zero Recordable Incidents: Maintain OSHA recordable incident rate of 0.0.
- Safety Audit Score: 95%+ compliance on internal and external safety audits.
- Training Completion: 100% crew compliance with required safety and electrical training.
Team Leadership & Development
- Crew Skill Development: Demonstrated improvement in apprentice evaluations quarter‑to‑quarter.
- Turnover Reduction: Maintain crew retention above 90%.
- Communication Metrics: Positive job‑site communication feedback from PMs, GC, and supervisors.
Customer/Stakeholder Satisfaction
- Client Satisfaction Rating: 4.5/5 or higher.
- Issue Resolution Time: Respond to and resolve site issues within 24–48 hours.
- Coordination Effectiveness: Documented positive collaboration with other trades.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; trade school preferred.
- State‑issued Journeyman or Master Electrician License, preferred.
- 5–8 years commercial/industrial electrical experience.
- 5+ years of leadership, foreman, or lead‑electrician experience.
- Strong knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, and industrial/commercial electrical systems.
- Skilled with wiring, conduit bending, motor control, and switchgear.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong leadership and crew management skills.
- Ability to read and interpret detailed electrical drawings.
- Advanced troubleshooting capability across commercial and industrial systems.
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
- High emphasis on safety, quality, and professionalism.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying environments.
- Regular use of PPE including steel toe boots, hard hats, gloves, and safety glasses.
Work Environment
- Commercial construction sites, industrial plants, warehouses, and active facilities.
- May require overtime, weekend work, or shift assignments depending on project needs.
