A fast-growing energy midstream firm is seeking a Natural Gas Commercial Analyst to join the team. This is a hands-on commercial role in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment focused on portfolio optimization, balancing, cost minimization, and project-level financial analysis. The Natural Gas Commercial Analyst is responsible for optimizing the natural gas supply portfolio to support long-term, firm supply contracts with commercial, industrial, and electric generation customers.

Type of Position: Direct Hire

Responsibilities:
  • Daily Gas Optimization & Balancing
    • Monitor and manage daily long and short positions resulting from multiple customer contracts and upstream transportation arrangements.
    • Optimize purchases, sales, and nominations to minimize imbalances, transportation costs, and penalties.
  • Gas Supply Procurement
    • Source and purchase natural gas from upstream producers and marketers to meet long-term customer obligations under firm supply and/or transportation contracts.
  • Transportation Management
    • Coordinate and optimize upstream pipeline transportation capacity, including nominations, scheduling, and capacity releases as needed to support delivery to customers.
    • Identify additional margin opportunities through optimization and incremental storage strategies.
  • Portfolio Analysis & Forecasting
    • Analyze customer demand forecasts, pipeline constraints, and market conditions to develop and execute daily/weekly/monthly supply plans.
  • Project Financial Analysis
    • Perform project IRR calculations using discounted cash flow models to evaluate new customer laterals, supply arrangements, and optimization opportunities.
  • Contract Support
    • Assist in structuring and executing gas supply agreements and transportation contracts that support new customer laterals and expansions.
  • Risk & Cost Management
    • Identify and mitigate supply and transportation risks; continuously seek opportunities to reduce delivered gas costs through optimization strategies.
  • Reporting & Analytics
    • Prepare daily position reports, imbalance summaries, and cost analyses for internal stakeholders.
    • Support month-end settlement and accrual processes.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Work closely with business development on new customer opportunities, operations on measurement and balancing, and accounting on invoicing and settlements.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Energy Management, Engineering, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in natural gas supply, portfolio optimization, transportation scheduling, or commercial gas operations (midstream, marketing, or utility experience preferred)
  • Proficiency with project IRR calculations using discounted cash flow models
  • Strong understanding of natural gas markets, pipeline transportation, nominations, balancing, and imbalance management
  • Proficiency with Excel and data analysis tools
  • Strong analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple daily priorities
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Experience supporting or managing long-term gas supply contracts for industrial or power generation customers preferred
  • Familiarity with multiple interstate/intrastate pipelines and their tariff structures preferred
  • Knowledge of natural gas accounting, settlement processes, and regulatory requirements preferred
  • Experience with gas optimization software or ETRM systems is a plus
