Job Duties
- Assess the patient, their needs, capabilities and ability to tolerate treatment and performs reassessments for response to treatment.
- Performs massage therapy services as according to the hospice plan of care as ordered by the patient's attending physician.
- Provides massage therapy in hospice inpatient facility.
- Coordinates the massage therapy treatment plan with other therapy treatment provided by other treatment team members.
- Maintains a calm and soothing environment during treatment.
- Instructs patients, family and staff in the use of massage therapy.
- Maintains ongoing effective communication with other hospice personnel involved with patient care and reports on patient's response to treatment or any changes in condition.
- Documents accurate and ongoing patient information in the patient's medical record according to organizational and professional standards.
- Participates in team meetings, committees and quality improvement processes and planning as requested.
- Assists in the orientation of new employees to the department, as appropriate.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Massage Therapy training from an accredited institution or equivalent.
- Licensure as a Massage Therapist in the State of Iowa is required.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Heart Code BLS required. New employees certify within three (3) months after hire date.
- Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
- Strong written and verbal skills.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Ability to work with physicians in a collaborative manner.
- Ability to communicate with tact and professionalism
