We Are Seeking

Team Gilbert has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated professional to fill the position of Code Inspector I. The Code Inspector I reports to the Inspections Supervisor. The primary functions of this position include:

  • Conducting inspections of structures and materials to identify and resolve code violations
  • Preparing detailed reports and documenting violations with photos and evidence for possible use in legal proceedings
  • Receiving, recording, and investigating complaints from the public, staff, and outside agencies
  • Researching ownership records, prior complaints, and applicable codes and regulations
  • Providing information and technical assistance on inspection activities, code requirements, and courtroom testimony

Employment with the Town of Gilbert is at-will and may be terminated by either the employee or the Town at any time, with or without cause or notice. This is a non-exempt position eligible for overtime.

About You

You know how to read a situation and stay steady when people get upset. Youre comfortable investigating on your own, tracking down ownership records and code history, and writing up what you find so it holds up if a case goes to court. You can explain code requirements clearly to a homeowner or a contractor. You dont need someone standing over your shoulder to get through your day.

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • 2-3 years of related work experience, preferably in an enforcement field (investigative report writing and documentation, issuing citations, preparing courtroom documents)
  • Valid Arizona Drivers License
  • Must possess or obtain an Arizona Code Enforcement Assocation (ACEA) Level I Code Academy certification withing 18 months of hire.

This position requires a pre-employment background check and physical.

This position has been designated as a Medium work position that spends a portion of their workday in the field and a portion in the office.
