Description

Position Overview: Code Enforcement Officers for the Village of Los Lunas play a vital role in upholding municipal regulations by monitoring and enforcing codes related to zoning, nuisances, and animal control. This position involves actively patrolling designated areas, responding to complaints, conducting inspections, and interacting with the public to ensure community compliance with regulations. The Code Enforcement Officer is dedicated to promoting a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment within the Village.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and enforce municipal regulations, including zoning ordinances, nuisance regulations, and animal control ordinances.
  • Patrol assigned areas to identify potential violations, respond to complaints, and initiate proactive enforcement actions.
  • Conduct inspections of properties to assess compliance with established regulations.
  • Communicate with residents, property owners, and business operators to provide information, guidance, and education on code compliance.
  • Issue notices of violations and citations as necessary, following established procedures and documenting actions taken.
  • Collaborate with other Village departments and agencies to coordinate enforcement efforts and address complex or multifaceted issues.
  • Maintain accurate records, documentation, and reports related to enforcement activities and interactions.
  • Participate in public education and outreach efforts to increase awareness of regulations and promote voluntary compliance.
  • Provide testimony and evidence in municipal court proceedings related to code enforcement cases.
  • Keep up-to-date with relevant laws, regulations, and best practices in code enforcement and related areas.
  • Support community engagement initiatives and respond to inquiries from the public regarding code enforcement matters.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance skills and knowledge.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED certificate.
  • A minimum of 2 to 3 years of general work experience.
  • Prior experience in code enforcement, animal control, law enforcement, or similar roles is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of municipal codes, zoning regulations, nuisance regulations, and animal control ordinances.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effectively interacting with diverse stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to accurately document and report enforcement actions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and make sound decisions within established guidelines.
  • Proficiency in using office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) for documentation and communication.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Knowledge of legal procedures and court processes related to code enforcement is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with community engagement techniques and public interaction is a plus.
  • This position is subject to on call status
