CockroachDB Database Engineer

This role drives automation, scalability, security, and high availability by leveraging distributed database architecture, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and modern automation practices to deliver a resilient database platform for enterprise applications. The CockroachDB Database Engineer will design, build, and operationalize an enterprise CockroachDB Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) platform on Linux.

Duration: 6+ months
Location: On-site 3 days/week in Chandler, AZ

The CockroachDB Database Engineer will design, build, and operationalize an enterprise CockroachDB Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) platform on Linux. This role drives automation, scalability, security, and high availability by leveraging distributed database architecture, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and modern automation practices to deliver a resilient database platform for enterprise applications.

Requirements:

• 8+ years of database engineering experience in enterprise environments.
• CockroachDB architecture and administration with strong expertise in distributed database systems.
• Ansible playbook development for infrastructure and database automation.

Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and maintain the enterprise CockroachDB DBaaS platform on Linux.
• Develop engineering standards, reference architectures, and operational best practices for CockroachDB deployments.
• Build automation frameworks using Ansible, shell scripting, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles.
• Design and implement self-service database provisioning capabilities for application teams.
• Optimize database performance through query tuning, capacity planning, and operational improvements.
• Implement high availability, multi-region deployment, backup, restore, failover, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Define and enforce security, encryption, role-based access control (RBAC), governance, and compliance standards.
• Monitor platform health using observability and alerting tools while continuously improving platform reliability and developer experience.
• Serve as the CockroachDB Subject Matter Expert (SME) and provide technical leadership for complex production issues.
