Position Summary:
To assist each student/athlete\u202fin\u202fachieving a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem.\u202f
Essential Functions:
- Adheres to all adopted Board of Education policies\u202f
- Adheres to all MSHSAA policies and PHL Coaches Handbook\u202f
- Serves in a leadership capacity to the community program\u202f
- Responsible with the Athletic Director for all matters relating to the organization, administration, and philosophy of the sport under his/her supervision\u202f
- Develops a consistent and positive communications procedure through the school and media to inform the parents and the general public about his/her sport\u202f
- Recommends to the Athletic Director teams that may be scheduled\u202f
- Oversees the high school program in his/her sport\u202f
- Follows established academic and citizenship performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition\u202f
- Coaches\u202findividual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved\u202f
- Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times\u202f
- Maintains\u202fan accurate and current team & program\u202froster and submits copies to the Athletic Director
- Maintains accurate statistics, records, and results of the season\u202f
- Maintains competency in\u202fMSHSAA\u202frules,\u202fevent procedures, coaching techniques, and general information about all aspects of the sport\u202f
- Records, submits, and maintains necessary MSHSAA and PHL forms and paperwork\u202f
- Encourages students to participate in multiple activities\u202f
- Works cooperatively with coaches/sponsors to facilitate student participation\u202f
- Recommends purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms\u202f
- Inspects and observes activities on district property and during school activities, as possible, for correct safety procedures and to correct any unsafe practices and conditions immediately if injury may be imminent and to report all other potential safety hazards to their supervisors\u202f
- Performs other duties as assigned\u202f
Supervisory Responsibilities:\u202f
- Assists Athletic Director in recruiting and hiring all assistant coaches\u202f
- Evaluates all assistant, sub-varsity, and volunteer coaches in his/her sport\u202f
- Assigns duties to coaching staff\u202f
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to\u202fcommunicate with families, students, and school employees\u202f
- Knowledge of relevant sports and its rules and regulations\u202f
- Ability to\u202fprovide positive and constructive coaching and feedback to athletes\u202f
- Effective oral and written communication skills\u202f
- Demonstrate success in area of application
Experience:
- Experience in teaching, coaching, and sports medicine\u202f(preferred)\u202f
- Multi-site or K-12 maintenance management experience
Education & Certification Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree OR serving as an approved Assistant Coach for a minimum of TWO school years at a participating MSHSAA school (required) AND;
- Missouri Teaching Certification OR\u202fNFHS Fundamentals of Coaching (required)
- NFHS Courses to be completed prior to hiring
- First Aid & CPR Certification (Required)
- Concussion in Sports Course (Required)
- Student Mental Health & Suicide Prevention Training (Required)
- Heat Illness Prevention Course (Required)
- Additional Training (Required Upon Hire):
- Must be completed within the first semester of hire. Failure to complete may result in demotion.
- Developing Youth Through Sport (Required)
