This position provides direction under the guidance of the head basketball coach to student-athletes so that they might achieve a high level of skill as well as an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork. To value and promote the worth of each participant while effectively leading players and staff to achieve their individual and collective potential. Work is performed under the direction of the head coach, Principal and Athletic Director.
Provides instruction to students in the rules, regulations, equipment and techniques of the sport
Organizes and directs individual and small group practice activities/exercises
Assesses students' skills, monitors students during competition and practice
Provides determining game strategy
Follows established procedures in the event of an injury
Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards students, officials and spectators
Supervises and maintains the equipment room in orderly condition and assumes responsibility for its security
Distributes and collects equipment, supplies and uniforms to students as directed by the head coach
Maintains a safe environment and facilities for student athletes at all times
Participates in special activities to include parent's night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies
Performs support tasks such as distributing and maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other related records
Models non discriminatory practices in all activities
High School diploma or GED
Per WIAA - minimum age for head coach is 21 years of age, assistant coach is 19 years of age
Previous coaching experience preferred
Reasoning ability to understand and carry out instructions and solve practical problems
Must complete WIAA required training and district required SafeSchools training prior to the beginning of the sport's season
CPR/First Aid card
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules
Ability to speak effectively to administration, staff, students and parents
Skills in reading, understanding and following safety rules and regulations
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with students and staff
Ability to perform duties with awareness of District requirements and Board policies
Ability to work independently and to communicate proactively
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit. Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being, or work output of other people. Requires some travel. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. Work is predominantly in athletic rooms and gyms. Temperature normal climate.
