Job Responsibilities:

Objective:

The CNC Technician will maintain the CNC Programs, Parameters, Tooling and Inserts. The CNC Technician will also develop Proto-type Parts and Custom Tooling; CIP activities as related to CNC cycle time and tooling improvements.

Scope:

All aspects and functions related to CNC programming and associated support.

Responsibilities, Duties and Authority:

  • Develop CNC Programs both manually and by using software to ensure efficient, cost-effective machining of parts
  • Set-up, adjust and troubleshoot CNC, Lathes and Vertical Mills to ensure that parts are produced according to company quality requirements.
  • Able to operate in line gauging and understand the readings.
  • Participate in team problem solving and preventative/corrective action as required.
  • Cooperate with maintenance, Tool & Die, quality and engineering personnel to work on production parts and on continuous improvement projects as required.
  • Perform and coordinate tooling preventative maintenance as required.
  • Exchange work knowledge and improve training for members of the CNC department.
  • Train and assist CNC Operators in Insert changes, Tool Changes, Robot Teaching.
  • Ensures all set-ups and repairs are done in a manner that will ensure the company's objective with respect to minimizing downtime, scrap and tooling costs are met.
  • Produce parts to close tolerance, specifications and punctually to ensure high productivity.
  • Report all non-conformances to the Supervisor/Manager.
  • Supports Implementation of MAFACT in all areas and participates in MAFACT when needed.
  • Observe standards for safe working conditions as outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act as well as plant standards outlined in the employee handbook.
  • Report to your supervisor all problems that would affect the operation of the department.
  • Participates in continuous improvement activities including driving CIP's, submits improvement suggestions (CI, Safety).
  • Ensure that company policies and procedures are adhered to including IATF16949, ISO14001 (EMS), and Employee Handbook.
  • Manage multiple projects and deliverables while treating team members with dignity and respect and in accordance with the Magna Employee's Charter and Common Values.
  • Follows MIOSHA and MPTSH safety regulations and policies, including wearing required P.P.E. (Personal Protective Equipment). Reports unsafe conditions to Manager/Supervisor within the department.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School diploma or G.E.D required. Minimum five (5) years of CNC Programming and Set-up experience.
  • Working knowledge of G-Code programming and operations (journeyman card preferred)
  • Advanced knowledge of machining fundamentals i.e., turning and milling.
  • Experience in production machining including lathe, mill and induction hardening.
  • CMM experience would be an asset. Knowledge of hand tools and assembly processes.
  • Knowledge for measuring equipment, basic SPC, and Safety legislation.
  • Responsible for production numbers. AutoCAD or MasterCam preferred.
  • Blueprint reading is required.
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment. Must be able to teach robot positions, replace tool bars and inserts, and perform work holding.
