About the Job CNC Machinist (Vertical Turning Lathe)
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented VTL Machine Operator to join our manufacturing team. The ideal candidate will have experience operating large-scale vertical turning lathes to produce precision metal components in a fast-paced environment. This role is vital to ensuring parts meet specifications for quality, size, and function.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate Vertical Turning Lathe machines to perform turning, facing, and boring operations
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions
- Select appropriate tools, set proper speeds and feeds, and ensure correct machine alignment
- Inspect parts using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.)
- Perform minor programming edits or offsets to improve part quality
- Maintain accurate production and inspection records
- Adhere to all safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized workspace
- Assist with routine maintenance and troubleshooting of machines
Qualifications
- 3+ years of VTL or related CNC machining experience preferred
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and GD&T symbols
- Strong understanding of machine shop math and precision measurement
- Familiarity with large-part handling and overhead cranes a plus
- Dependable work ethic and ability to work independently or as part of a team
- High school diploma or GED required; trade school or technical training is a plus
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs
- Manual dexterity to operate tools and machine controls
