This position is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines to manufacture precision components for industrial, marine, and shipyard applications. CNC Machinists ensure that parts are produced accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with engineering specifications while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.
Job Description:
CNC Machinists perform a variety of machining tasks in support of manufacturing, repair, and production operations.
Responsibilities include:
- Set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, and other machining equipment.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, work orders, and engineering specifications.
- Select and install appropriate tooling, fixtures, and machine settings.
- Load raw materials and monitor machine operations to ensure precision and quality.
- Measure and inspect finished components using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and indicators.
- Perform machine adjustments and tool offsets to maintain dimensional accuracy.
- Conduct routine machine maintenance and report equipment issues to supervisors.
- Verify completed parts meet quality standards, tolerances, and customer specifications.
- Maintain accurate production and inspection records.
- Follow all workplace safety procedures and operate machinery in a safe and efficient manner.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and quality personnel to ensure production goals are met.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of CNC machining experience preferred.
- Experience operating CNC mills, lathes, or multi-axis machining centers.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) preferred not required.
- Experience using precision measuring tools and inspection equipment.
- Knowledge of machining principles, tooling, cutting speeds, feeds, and materials.
- CNC programming experience
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and adherence to procedures.
- Excellent attendance, reliability, and work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience in manufacturing, industrial, marine, or shipyard environments preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull.
- Ability to stand for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Capable of bending, reaching, kneeling, and performing repetitive motions.
- Must be able to wear required PPE, including but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toe boots, and other protective equipment.
- Ability to work in manufacturing, industrial, and machine shop environments.
Work Schedule & Hours:
- Full-time position averaging 40–56 hours per week, including overtime and occasional weekends as needed.
- Extended hours may be required to meet production schedules and customer deadlines.
