A well-established precision manufacturing business is seeking an experienced Grinding Machinist to join its production team. The successful candidate will set up and operate CNC grinding machines to manufacture high-precision carbide cutting tools to exact technical drawings and quality standards. 

This is a hands-on role suited to someone with strong technical knowledge, excellent attention to detail, and a commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC grinding machines in line with production priorities.
  • Interpret technical drawings, tool layouts, and specifications to produce accurate tool geometry. 
  • Carry out in-process inspections using precision measuring equipment to ensure compliance with quality standards. 
  • Adjust machine parameters and tooling to maintain consistency and reduce scrap. 
  • Support machine maintenance, housekeeping, and safe working practices. 
  • Record production data, issues, and improvement actions accurately. 
  • Assist with new product introductions, trials, and prototypes. 
  • Support and train less experienced team members where required. 

 

Candidate profile

  • Experience with CNC grinding, ideally including Rollomatic and/or ANCA machines. 
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, tool blueprints, and geometric tolerances. 
  • Knowledge of CNC programming and grinding software such as ToolRoom or VGPro. 
  • Confident using precision inspection tools including micrometers, calipers, and optical measuring systems. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive, quality-focused approach. 
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with high standards for accuracy and reliability.
