To qualify for the 2210 IT Specialist series you must demonstrate the following competencies. Experience must be IT related but may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid duties and/or completion of specific intensive training for example IT certification as appropriate.

  • Customer Service: Works with clients and customers that is any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies or organizations outside the Government to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems or satisfy their expectations, know about available products and services and is committed to providing quality products and services.
  • Oral Communication: Expresses information for example ideas or facts to individuals or groups effectively taking into account the audience and nature of the information for example technical, sensitive, controversial, makes clear and convincing oral presentations, listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues and responds appropriately.
  • Problem Solving: Identifies problems, determines accuracy and relevance of information, uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives and to make recommendations.

In addition to qualify for this GS-13 position you must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 level or above which is in or related to the work of the position to be filled that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Such experience must primarily consist of installing, configuring, administering and modifying Red Hat Enterprise Linux versions 7.x, 8.x and 9.x software and x86 hardware and administering WebSphere Application Server, WebSphere Deployment Manager, WebSphere MQ software and Kubernetes namespace administration.

Duties of the position

Provides expertise in the development or selection, evaluation, modification, installation, implementation and maintenance of infrastructure automation software, hardware and infrastructure management software. Responsible for the integration and testing of numerous network infrastructure management systems and tools to provide a unified infrastructure service.

Reviews and analyzes network requirements for capabilities of new systems and ensures that sufficient functionality and computing capacity will be provided.

Provides expert level guidance on network problem determination and coordinates resolution of major systems software and hardware problems. Employs sophisticated problem analysis resolution techniques and state-of-the-art diagnostic technologies. Determines area of problem responsibility and summons vendor representatives when appropriate. Also determines most efficient and effective method of recovery after system problems or failure.
