Morton is seeking a Cloud Engineer for our client in Richmond, VA. This person is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining cloud infrastructure and services. This role focuses on building scalable and secure cloud solutions, automating operations, optimizing performance, and providing technical guidance to junior engineers and cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities:
  • Design, implement, and maintain scalable, high-performance, and reliable cloud infrastructure and solutions.
  • Develop and optimize cloud-based applications and services in alignment with best practices, industry standards, and cloud provider guidelines.
  • Monitor and manage cloud environments, including virtual machines, storage, networking, and related services.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex cloud infrastructure and application issues, providing advanced technical support.
  • Collaborate with software developers, data engineers, security teams, and infrastructure teams to ensure seamless integration and compatibility.
  • Automate cloud operations such as deployment, monitoring, backup/recovery, and incident response using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation tools.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts, IaC templates, and supporting applications, following secure coding standards.
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and team members on cloud technologies and best practices.
  • Ensure cloud environments meet security, privacy, and compliance requirements through the implementation of industry-standard controls and policies.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in cloud engineering, infrastructure engineering, or a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and core cloud services, including compute, storage, networking, databases, and security.
  • Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation) and scripting languages such as Python or Bash.
  • Experience with cloud automation, monitoring, and infrastructure management tools.
  • Solid understanding of cloud security best practices and compliance standards.
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and serverless architectures.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and mentorship abilities.
