CLINICAL SUPERVISOR - REHAB-OUTPATIENT THERAPY

Summary:

Responsible for the supervision and schedule coordination of assigned clinical or support staff. Assist in the management of all rehabilitation services at assigned sites including therapy services, diagnostic testing and/or support staff activities. Facilitate staff education, outcome achievement and program development. Assure assessment of competency of all assigned staff. Maintain compliance with all regulations associated with clinical operations Coordinate with other members of the Rehabilitation Services management team to promote consistent provision of services at all assigned sites.

Other information:

1. Minimum of 2 years' experience as a therapy staff clinician with some supervisory experience preferred.

2. Specialized or Technical Education Required: Graduate of an accredited program in physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy or audiology. Louisiana license is required. National Registration preferred for OT.

3. Manual or Physical Skill Required: Must be capable of performing all areas of skill required in the day-to-day management of rehabilitation operations. Will require lifting and moving skills.

Responsibilities:

1. Assist in directing review, revision and implementation of policies and procedures for all specified clinical operations, development of new programs, review of assigned staff performance, effecting changes as needed, assuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

2. Inform Rehabilitation Services Manager of problems, activities, needed equipment, materials, and personnel. Act as liaison between staff and department management team, hospital administration and Medical Staff as needed to promote efficient operations.

3. Coordinate meetings as directed. Provide follow up as necessary. Create item agendas and action plans to promote optimal care of the patients. Distribute information among staff. Develop relationships with community agencies, groups, professional affiliations, etc., as appropriate.

4. Assist in recruiting and selection, training/orientation, competency assessment, assignment, guidance and supervision of staff, monitoring of productivity, evaluation of performance and recommendations for personnel actions. Encourage personal and professional development and assist in development of performance standards for staff to follow. Revise existing standards as needed. Conduct in-service education programs for department staff. Coordinate assignment and supervision of volunteers.

5. Assist in the development and maintenance of quality assurance/performance improvement records and monitor outcomes of the department as it pertains to clinical care. Perform evaluation of equipment utilization and performance, evaluation of treatment and reporting methods and compliance with documentation standards of the department, introduction and demonstration of new techniques, equipment, conducting and interpreting research findings to the staff.

6. Identify patient needs and develop quality rehabilitation programs to meet these needs; assure delivery of quality services through appropriate auditing of patient care goals. Be available for consultation with patients, visitors, medical and nursing staff and subordinate staff. Teach patients, other staff members and student affiliates principles of pertinent rehabilitation disciplines.

7. Manage caseloads to suit the needs of patients and the institution.

8. Represent the department at conferences and working committees as directed. Meet with nursing and other hospital staff as needed.

9. Maintain clinical education programs if assigned, and its assignment to subordinate staff with duties to include:

a. Contact affiliate universities to schedule student interns.

b. Attend supervisory meetings at affiliate universities as necessary.

c. Provide direct student supervision on site.

d. Provide orientation to facility and departmental policies and procedures.

e. Act as mediator for student and staff clinical instructor as needed.

f. Perform midterm interview with all students and the acting CI to ensure satisfaction from both parties. If the CCCE is the acting CI then another professional will step in as the third party to offer an opportunity for the student to voice their unbiased opinion of their experience.

g. Act as liaison between affiliated university and North Oaks Health System when fieldwork problems arise.

h. Coordinate fieldwork performance reports and paperwork for closure of internship.

i. Assist with all duties associated with clinical education as assigned.

10. Maintain department facilities and equipment in a condition to promote efficiency, health, comfort and safety of patients and staff. Assist in evaluation and justification of equipment and supply needs and purchases, documentation of maintenance schedules, planning for use of space, purchasing new equipment and outside services and implementation of repairs. Coordinate activities of vendors.

11. Determine needs for clinical and support staffing to include mandatory hospital functions, replacement coverage, priority staffing, leave of absence and other personnel issues. Review and authorize time off requests. Review payroll hours for assigned staff .

12. Maintain safety, infection and environmental control policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with all.

13. Maintain schedules, supplies, and logs as necessary for daily operations. Provide daily communication with patient access staff regarding scheduling availability and problems as they arise.

14. Perform other duties as assigned by the Rehabilitation Services Director or designee.

15. Coordinates training, education, documentation, and logs needed for OAE / neonatal hearing screens as applicable (must be a licensed Audiologist to perform).

16. Perform duties of staff clinician as needed.

17. Follow North Oaks Health System's Compliance Programs and Federal and State Regulatory guidelines.

Patient Care Supervision

1. Directs administration of physical agents, exercises, and treatment techniques utilized by therapy staff as prescribed by a physician and/or tasks performed by technicians in the Rehabilitation Services Department.

2. Assists in managing daily operations of the department as it relates to physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and audiology. Responsible for the supervision and coordination of all professional staff activities to include supervision of subordinate staff members.

3. Arranges for the Instruction of subordinates in the appropriate use of equipment or machinery.

4. Monitors log completion, schedules, and adherence to all standards of performance for technician and support staff operations.
