About the Position:

Harris Health System is seeking a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Oncology to deliver advanced clinical pharmacy services at LBJ Hospital. This specialist will serve as a vital member of the interdisciplinary care team, providing direct patient care and overseeing oncology medication therapy. The role supports excellence in patient safety, cost-effective medication use, and clinical education.

Duties include participating in multidisciplinary rounds, managing oncology treatment protocols, educating pharmacy trainees and clinical staff, and collaborating with leadership on innovative care models and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver specialized oncology clinical pharmacy services in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and provide direct consultation to oncology teams.

  • Precept pharmacy interns, residents, and technicians.

  • Develop and maintain evidence-based chemotherapy protocols.

  • Support continuous education and training of pharmacy and clinical staff.

  • Monitor drug usage, evaluate therapy outcomes, and ensure compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations.


Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from an accredited school of pharmacy

Licensure & Certifications:

  • Texas Pharmacist License or eligibility (must obtain within 90 days)

  • Texas Pharmacist Preceptor Certification (within 90 days)

  • ACPE IV Sterile Certification

  • Board of Pharmacy Specialties Certification (or obtain within 18 months and maintain thereafter)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA approved (within 90 days)

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – AHA approved (required within 6 months for inpatient roles)

Experience:

  • Completion of PGY1 and PGY2 ASHP-accredited residency programs

    • OR PGY1 residency plus 3 years of progressive clinical experience in oncology

Skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication

  • Proficient in MS Word and PC systems

  • Analytical, statistical, and clinical research capabilities

  • Advanced knowledge of oncology pharmacotherapy and medical terminology

Work Schedule:

  • Must be available for weekends, holidays, flexible shifts, overtime, travel, and on-call duties
