Description:

Clinical Nurse Specialist - Operating Room

The Clinical Nurse Specialist serves as a clinician, educator, consultant, and change agent, advancing high-quality patient care and professional nursing practice. This role partners with clinical teams to elevate outcomes, support staff development, and ensure care delivery aligns with MercyOne's mission, vision, and values.

What You'll Do:

  • Assess, analyze, and guide clinical practice using the nursing process
  • Conduct patient care rounds to evaluate care quality and appropriateness
  • Use data and clinical systems to improve efficiency and patient outcomes
  • Provide real-time coaching and education to clinical staff
  • Collaborate with leaders to identify care gaps and implement improvements
  • Design and deliver education based on identified staff learning needs
  • Support onboarding and orientation of new nursing staff
  • Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for nurses and care teams
  • Evaluate and support ongoing clinical competency development
  • Integrate evidence-based practice and nursing research into patient care
  • Monitor patient outcomes and guide updates to care plans
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to address clinical challenges
  • Lead and participate in performance improvement initiatives
  • Evaluate and enhance nursing standards of care and professional practice
  • Support development and implementation of best practices
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and research activities
  • Follow all safety, infection control, and workplace health protocols
  • Maintain a safe environment for patients, families, and colleagues

Education:

  • Masters Degree (MSN) Required
  • 3-5 years of experience in a specialty area of nursing required
  • Licensure as RN in Iowa.
  • Certification in specialty area required within 6 months of hire.
  • Mandatory Reporter, BLS, ACLS required
