Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Role
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) provides clinical leadership and expertise for population-based nursing care to integrate evidence-based care, advance clinical practice to achieve optimal patient outcomes, and facilitate transitions of care. The CNS provides leadership and mentoring to support the interprofessional team in the evaluation and implementation of evidence-based therapies and research.
The CNS will collaborate with other work area leaders in the education, research, quality, and clinical updates for unit staff to achieve the goals and objectives of the work area.
Key Responsibilities
Provides clinical practice leadership through the design, implementation, and evaluation of care delivery for patient populations. Collaborates with the healthcare team to lead and manage projects impacting clinical care. Acts as a change leader to respond to regulatory, organizational, and community needs in a dynamic healthcare environment.
Advances nursing practice for a defined patient population by developing policies, procedures, guidelines, and education that incorporate evidence-based strategies related to nursing care delivery/response, documentation, and communication. Partners with interdisciplinary teams to address gaps and improve clinical knowledge and nursing practice.
Collaborates with physician leadership to co-lead clinical quality initiatives. Mentors nurses in the process of planning, implementing, and evaluating change processes. Cultivates a practice environment that promotes mutual respect, communication, and collaboration.
