Our world-class, 45-bed, Level IV, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) admits nearly 700 infants per year, dedicated to delivering the highest quality care for all newborns, ranging from healthy neonates to sick or premature newborns requiring close observation or intensive care. The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is an expert clinical practitioner responsible for providing leadership, consultation, education and patient care management expertise for specific patient care population.

As the Clinical Nurse Specialist,

  • Provide guidance, direction and assistance to the health care team in maintaining optimum quality of nursing care for patients in designated clinical specialty.
  • Assume the role of leader, clinician, researcher, educator, patient care advocate, consultant, inter and intradepartmental liaison, and resource professional.
  • Direct, supervise and guide nursing staff and health care team members in the provision of patient care.
  • Maintain competence skills including the ability to deliver care to special patient populations and patients with diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Identify the ability of the neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients to follow direction/instructions and give consent.
  • Identify safety concerns and institute measures to provide a safe environment; and provide appropriate assessment, intervention and evaluation of patients with consideration of developmental achievements in these patient populations.

Qualifications

Educational Requirements:

  • Master's degree in clinical nursing specialty required

License/Certification Requirements:

  • Valid California Registered Nurse license.
  • CNS certification by the Board of Registered Nursing.
  • American Heart Association or American Red Cross PALS and NRP certifications required

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years acute care clinical experience.
