Clinical Nurse – Radiotherapy Services

Location: Howard University Hospital – Washington, DC

Role Summary

Howard University Hospital is seeking a dedicated Clinical Nurse – Radiotherapy Services to join our Oncology team. This role provides professional nursing care to patients receiving radiation therapy treatments and supportive oncology services. The Clinical Nurse ensures safe treatment delivery, patient education, symptom management, and coordination of care throughout the radiotherapy continuum.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide direct nursing care to patients undergoing radiation therapy treatments
  • Perform patient assessments before, during, and after treatment sessions
  • Monitor and manage radiation-related side effects and symptoms
  • Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, expectations, and self-care
  • Collaborate with radiation oncologists, physicists, dosimetrists, therapists, and interdisciplinary teams
  • Administer medications and supportive therapies as prescribed
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation in the electronic medical record
  • Ensure compliance with radiation safety standards and infection control protocols
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and patient safety activities

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the District of Columbia
  • Minimum of two (2) years of clinical nursing experience
  • Oncology, infusion, or radiation therapy experience preferred
  • Oncology Nursing Certification (OCN) preferred
  • Current American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certification required

Pay + Schedule

Schedule: Full-Time, Day Shift

This position is covered under the DC Nurses Association (DCNA) collective bargaining agreement. Base pay range: $37.33–$62.43/hr, commensurate with experience and qualifications per the DCNA wage scale. Effective July 1, 2026, the base range will increase to $37.89–$63.36/hr per the updated collective bargaining agreement.

Additional compensation may include a night shift differential for qualifying evening/night shifts and a weekend differential for qualifying weekend shifts.
