The Peds Cardiac Stepdown (Unit 3A) located in Duke Central Tower at Duke University Hospital has 17 beds serving infants through young adult patients with congenital heart disease, cardiac transplant needs, and complex trach/ventilator-dependent care. Nurse to patient ratio is 1:3.

Schedule:

  • Full Time: 3, 12 hour shifts; 7 a.m./7 p.m., rotating days/nights; 36 hours per week.

How you will make an impact

  • Provide advanced and specialized nursing care in accordance with Nursing Clinical Ladder Program and NC Board of Nursing guidelines.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop standards of care, patient/family education, and staff education.
  • Lead educational initiatives, committees, and research projects while guiding resource utilization and quality improvement.
  • Mentor and coach staff and nursing students, supporting professional growth and orientation development.
  • Lead initiatives at departmental or broader levels to improve patient care quality, safety, and innovation.

What you will need

  • BSN from an accredited nursing program.
  • Three years of nursing experience.
  • Current or compact RN licensure in North Carolina; BLS required.
  • Strong knowledge of nursing scope, processes, and clinical practices.
  • Ability to assess and care for acute and chronically ill patients.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to teach patients/families and document care accurately.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and healthcare documentation tools.
  • Knowledge of infection control and regulatory standards.
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and drive quality improvement initiatives.
