Academic Alliance in Dermatology is hiring a Medical Assistant for our Sarasota clinic. This position supports both medical and cosmetic dermatology services and works closely with the provider throughout the day to keep clinic flow running smoothly.
This is a hands-on role where you’ll be involved in patient care, procedures, and clinical coordination. Candidates with experience in any medical setting are encouraged to apply. Dermatology experience is a plus, but not required.
Schedule: Monday through Friday | 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities
Room patients, take vitals, and document medical history using EMA (EMR system)
Assist the provider during procedures such as biopsies, excisions, and other in-office treatments
Prepare exam rooms and procedure trays based on daily schedules and provider preference
Apply numbing agents and support patients through procedures
Label and process specimens for lab and pathology, ensuring accuracy and proper routing
Help maintain clinic flow by keeping patients moving through their visits efficiently
Scribe and assist with documentation during patient visits as needed
Handle patient communication including calls, messages, and follow-ups
Monitor inventory, restock supplies, and remove expired materials
Clean and sterilize instruments in accordance with infection control protocols
Follow up with patients regarding results and next steps per provider direction
Qualifications:
What We’re Looking For
Experience working as a Medical Assistant, CNA, PCT, or similar clinical role
Comfortable in a patient-facing environment
Strong attention to detail and ability to stay organized throughout the day
Basic understanding of medical terminology
Experience using an EMR system
Ability to assist with injections or minor procedures
Strong communication skills and professionalism with patients
Preferred (Not Required)
Dermatology experience
Completion of a Medical Assistant program or relevant healthcare training
Pre-med or pre-PA background
Bilingual in English & Spanish
Licensure/Certifications/Education:
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Completion of a Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant program, or a bachelor’s degree in a pre-med or pre-PA track, is preferred
Previous hands-on clinical experience (1-2 years preferred) in a Medical Assistant (CMA), CNA, or similar patient care role
Dermatology experience is beneficial but not required
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Standing and moving throughout the clinic for most of the day
Frequent bending, reaching, and handling clinical supplies
Exposure to a medical environment including sharps and biohazard materials
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs as needed
