Position Summary

The Lead Nurse is a key member of the Clinic Management Team (CMT) and provides leadership, supervision, and coordination of nursing and clinical services at an assigned TAPM site. Working closely with the Nursing Director, Practice Administrator, and Lead Provider, this role oversees clinical operations, staff performance, patient care quality, regulatory compliance, and resource management while providing direct patient care as needed. The Lead Nurse serves as a clinical resource, supports staff development, and helps ensure efficient, patient-centered care delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Operations

  • Supervise and support nursing staff, including scheduling, training, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.
  • Coordinate daily clinical operations and staffing to ensure efficient patient flow and quality care.
  • Serve as a member of the Clinic Management Team and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure implementation of nursing protocols, disease management programs, and clinical best practices.
  • Provide coverage for clinical functions, including provider support, triage, and direct patient care as needed.
  • Float to other clinic locations to support staffing needs when required.

Clinical Care

  • Perform nursing assessments, treatments, procedures, medication administration, immunizations, wound care, specimen collection, and other nursing services within scope of practice.
  • Conduct telephone and walk-in triage, determining appropriate patient disposition and follow-up care.
  • Assist providers during examinations and procedures.
  • Coordinate care, patient education, referrals, follow-up appointments, and documentation.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of patient records and clinical documentation.

Administrative & Compliance

  • Monitor inventory, supplies, medications, and equipment to maintain clinic operations within budget.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, Bloodborne Pathogen, HIPAA, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Support workplace safety initiatives, annual staff training, and incident reporting.
  • Assist with policy development, quality assurance activities, and operational improvements.

Human Resources

  • Participate in recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, and orientation of new staff.
  • Identify training and development needs and support ongoing staff education.
  • Monitor attendance and performance concerns and collaborate with leadership on corrective actions.

Preparation and training:

Job duties require registered nurse (BSN preferred) with a minimum of three (3) years' experience in a similar capacity. Must have a working knowledge of data processing equipment, computers, telephones, and such typical office machines and equipment. Must maintain effective written and oral communication and English skills. Must maintain current North Carolina RN License, CPR certification, Venipuncture certification, IV Certification, and a NC driver's license for occasional travel.
