Clinical Laboratory Support TechnicianAt NorthBay Health the clinical laboratory support technician supports cytology and pathology services by assisting with specimen collection, slide preparation, during on-site adequacy evaluation for fine needle aspiration (FNA), interventional radiology (IR), and operating room (OR) procedures. This role works closely with pathologists, pathology coordinators, radiologists, and clinical staff to ensure high-quality specimen handling and timely processing. This position plays a critical role in ensuring high-quality cytology specimens, which directly impacts diagnostic accuracy and patient care—especially in time-sensitive procedures like FNA and interventional oncology. Works under the supervision of the Supervisor, Manager, Laboratory Director, and Medical Director and under the direct supervision of the Clinical Laboratory Scientist on duty.Primary Job DutiesSets up specimen collection and procedure support as permitted by regulations in those sections of the laboratory to which assigned. Also, performs the functions of a Laboratory Assistant or Posting/File Clerk as needed to include scanning reference testing into the HIS.Accepts only properly labeled specimens and requisitions for testing by established procedures. Completes stats and ASAPs within the required times.Assist with on-site support for FNA procedures in interventional radiology and OR settingsPrepare and maintain supplies for procedures (slides, fixatives, needles, containers)Ensure proper patient and specimen identification per protocolCommunicate effectively with physicians and clinical staff during proceduresSpecimen Collection & Procedure SupportAssist with on-site support for FNA procedures in interventional radiology and OR settingsPrepare and maintain supplies for procedures (slides, fixatives, needles, containers)Ensure proper patient and specimen identification per protocolCommunicate effectively with physicians and clinical staff during proceduresMaintains sufficient inventory levels of supplies and reagents within the assigned section.
