Job Overview:
The University of Cincinnati Hoxworth Blood Center Quality Control Laboratory QCL is recruiting several full-time, 100 FTE Clinical Lab Scientists Level 1 or 2 for first or second shift. We seek motivated individuals with strong critical thinking, communication, and independent work skills. Experience in blood banking is preferred.
Responsibilities include:
- Performing routine and complex quality control testing on blood and blood components
- High-level evaluation, review, and interpretation of test results
- Candidates must be able to perform with minimal supervision, be proficient in computerized data entry and retrieval functions, and communicate effectively across departments.
Compensation and Schedule:
- Sign on Bonus: $5,000
- Starting pay range based on experience:
- Clinical Lab Scientist 1: $28-$30 per hour
- Clinical Lab Scientist 2: $31-$34 per hour
- Shifts Available:
- 10-hour shifts
- First Shift: 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM
- Second Shift: 11:30 AM - 10:00 PM
- Candidates will be expected to work rotating weekends - 1 to 2 weekends per month - 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM
- Shift differential: $4 per hour
- No on-call hours required
Essential Functions:
- Perform testing, interpret, and record results
- Perform quality control and proficiency testing
- Comply with cGMP requirements in appropriate areas regarding test interpretation and validity of results
- Communicate and report test results to external customers as well as internal
- Respond to other healthcare professionals questions regarding results
- Clerically process incoming patient blood samples
- Compose written case reports for hospital patient referrals when appropriate
- Prepare laboratory reagents
- Develop and perform reagent evaluation studies and other special projects with supervisory review
- Quarantine and discard blood products with positive test results when appropriate
- Maintain equipment and clean safe work area
- Perform related duties based on departmental need
Minimum Requirements:
- Clinical Lab Scientist 1:
- Required Education: Bachelors Degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Sciences, or Medical Laboratory Technology, or other related biological science
- Four (4) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement
- Required Trainings: MLT or MLS Registry Eligibility and must obtain ASCP certificate within one year of date of hire
- Clinical Lab Scientist 2:
- Required Education: Bachelors Degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Sciences, or Medical Laboratory Technology, or other related biological science
- Six (6) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement
- Required Trainings: MLTASCP MLSASCP MTASCP BBASCP or SBBASCP
- Required Experience: Two (2) years of relevant experience
