CLINICAL LAB ANIMAL VETERINARIAN

General Responsibilities:
To provide clinical and surgical medical care of animals (multi-species) used in research and training. To support health surveillance and preventative medicine programs, and to participate in teaching and training of departmental personnel and research staff. To review animal use requests for the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee and Animal Welfare regulations. To supervise veterinary staff members and provide emergency veterinary care. To participate in all activities that are part of a dynamic laboratory animal care and use program including research, grant writing, equipment and process evaluation, tours and the development of standard operating procedures.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Provides support to research investigators by combining veterinary knowledge with research needs.
Provides clinical and surgical care of research animals.
Provides resources for coordination of animal care between the vet staff and care staff, hands-on, one-on-one, or classroom style training to improve the level of animal care and quality of research provided and conducted by investigators and their staff.
Participates in rotational on-call.
Directly supervises 1 to 6 employees.
Participates in SEBLAB cage change rotation.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Salary Pay Range: $94,375 - $153,355

Minimum Requirements:
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and two (2) years of related experience required OR Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and completion of a related training program required. Work experience may NOT substitute for the education requirement.
Licenses / Certifications / Registrations:
Currently credentialed as an American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) Diplomate by the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) or similar board veterinary specialty (i.e. American College of Veterinary Surgeons or American College Veterinary Pathologist) preffered. State of Alabama Veterinary License must be obtained within two (2) years from hire date.
