The Department of Speech Pathology at Xavier University of Louisiana invites applications for a full-time clinical educator. The full-time clinical educator is a staff position that reports to the Director of Clinical Education and Department Head/Graduate Program Director, respectively. This position requires considerable experience as a speech-language pathologist with knowledge and skills in evaluation/treatment of pediatrics and adults with acquired disorders and experience with supervision of undergraduate/graduate student clinicians. Duties

The major responsibility of the incumbent is the supervision of undergraduate and graduate students as they prepare and engage in clinical practicum activities on-campus and at community events periodically each semester. It also may include teaching an undergraduate/graduate course related to speech-language pathology as needed.

About the Department

The Department of Speech Pathology offers an undergraduate major and minor in Speech Pathology and Audiology and a Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology. The Master of Science (M.S.) education program in speech-language pathology {residential} at Xavier University of Louisiana is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, 2200 Research Boulevard, #310, Rockville, MD 20850, 800-498-2071 or 301-296-5700. In the department of Speech Pathology, undergraduate seniors have the opportunity to enroll in two semesters of clinical practicum and graduate students enroll in clinical practicum each semester of enrollment. Xavier encourages cross-disciplinary collaborations with faculty, staff, and the community from various areas, including but not limited to pharmacy, public health, counseling, occupational therapy, psychology and physicians' assistant programs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology is required (Clinical Doctorate preferred) ·
  • ASHA CCC-SLP certification is required
  • Licensure, or eligible for licensure, in Louisiana within 30 days of start date
  • A minimum of 5 years of speech-language pathology experience in the field with pediatrics and adults with acquired disorders
  • Prior supervision experience (may include SLP-As, graduate/undergraduate students, Clinical Fellows/Provisional license SLPs, CCC-SLPs)
  • Write and speak English proficiently

Preferred Qualifications

  • SLPD (Clinical Doctorate)
  • Availability for a full work week that may start as early as 8:30am and end as late as 6pm
  • Clinical experience in a variety of settings
  • 3-5 years of experience clinical supervision
  • Completed professional development in the area of supervision and/or clinical instruction
  • Experience with instrumentation for voice and swallowing
  • Demonstrated record of teaching, scholarship, and/or service to the profession
  • Familiarity with CAA (Council on Academic Accreditation) accreditation standards (preferred)
  • Commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population
  • Commitment to the mission of Xavier University of Louisiana

A bachelor's degree is desired. Employee must have proficiency in the use of word processing (Microsoft Word preferred), spreadsheets (Excel preferred), BANNER, EAB, and any other platform used by the University. The position requires the ability to prioritize work and perform duties with minimal supervision. Employee must have excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills. Employee must be able to interact effectively with a diverse group of people.

  1. Contribute to a positive and collaborative work environment.

  2. Contribute to weekly clinic staff and monthly faculty meetings.

  3. Supervise undergraduate and graduate students in the on-campus clinic in evaluation/treatment/coordination of care with clients across the lifespan with developmental and acquired disorders.

  4. Supervise the maintenance of all clinic files of assigned clients.

  5. Approve clinical clock hours for students.

  6. Evaluate and advise students' clinical experiences.

  7. Stay current with clinical practice and evidence that support content area expertise and professional growth

  8. Enforce HIPAA and FERPA training and implementation for all students.

  9. Supervise diagnostic and treatment sessions in The Xavier University Speech- Language and Hearing Clinic (XUSHC)

  • Clinical Practice - Guiding students who will be acquiring skills:

  • in performing appropriate assessment

  • in developing treatment plan including time-based functional goals

  • monitoring and modifying treatment plan appropriately

  • in professional practice.

  • Ensuring that the students

  • follow all practice acts and regulatory guidelines for client management

  • can make evaluation/discharge from therapy planning decisions and recommendations

  • utilize a variety of appropriate evidence-based assessment/treatment techniques through individualized treatment planning to optimize outcomes

  • are able to providing therapeutic activities, home programs, and documentation

  • communicate with clients and families in a professional and appropriate manner commensurate with client/family level of understanding and need

  • Guide the students as they learn to

  • adhere to departmental timelines for completion of all paperwork (evaluation reports, SOAP notes, treatment plans, semester summaries, and discharge summaries)

  • Sign/cosign documentation appropriately per licensure guidelines.

Participate in service activities for the Department, the University, their discipline, and the community is also expected.
