Position Information

DICKINSON STATE UNIVERSITY (DSU) is a regional comprehensive institution within the North Dakota University System, whose primary role is to contribute to intellectual, social, economic, and cultural development, especially to Southwestern North Dakota. DSU is seeking to hire a Clinical Coordinator and Assistant Professor for Athletic Training.

The coordinator of clinical education is a core faculty member whose primary appointment is to the athletic training program and who has responsibility to direct clinical education. This position would also teach a variety of courses in athletic training per program requirements and requires willingness to teach online and/or hybrid courses, in addition to traditional face-to-face teaching modality. The faculty member will work collaboratively in a School that serves a number of majors and minors and serves as an integral part of the general education curriculum for all programs on campus. Additional responsibilities include quality academic advising service to students, participation in departmental and University committees, and service to the campus and larger community.

This is a face-to-face position on the Dickinson State University Campus in Dickinson, ND.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master's degree or higher in Athletic Training or closely related field • Current ATC through BOC • Current NPI number • BLS or equivalent certification • Current state athletic training license, in good standing • Demonstrated contemporary expertise in athletic training • Demonstrated clinical practice as an ATC • Demonstrated scholarship • Previous full-time academic appointment with teaching responsibilities • Current certification as an Athletic Trainer (AT) by the BOC • Minimum of five (5) years of experience as an athletic trainer, including 5 years in clinical settings • Experience in clinical education or supervision • Strong organizational, communication, and teaching skills • Ability to work independently and as part of a team • Knowledge of CAATE standards and regulations related to clinical education and academic instruction • Contemporary expertise and knowledge in the field of athletic training, including emerging trends and best practices

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience in curriculum development and evaluation • Knowledge of research methods and data analysis • Knowledge of assessment practices

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Clinical Education Coordination

• The Clinical Coordinator is a core faculty member and is responsible for the overall management and coordination of clinical experiences for students in the Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) program, as well as teaching core courses within the program. • This position ensures compliance with all Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) standards, and works closely with faculty, staff, students, preceptors, and clinical sites to provide high-quality clinical education and academic instruction.

Clinical Coordination

• Oversight of student clinical progression: Monitor student progress in clinical settings and provide feedback. • Student assignment to athletic training clinical experiences and supplemental clinical experiences: Assign students to appropriate clinical sites based on their academic progress and career goals. • Clinical site evaluation: Conduct regular evaluations of clinical sites to ensure quality and compliance. • Student evaluation: Assess student performance in clinical settings and provide feedback. • Regular communication with preceptors: Maintain regular communication with preceptors to ensure student satisfaction and success. • Professional development of preceptors: Provide opportunities for preceptor development and training. • Preceptor selection and evaluation: Select and evaluate preceptors based on their qualifications and experience.

Curriculum Development and Evaluation

• Collaborate with faculty to develop and revise the MSAT curriculum. • Evaluate the effectiveness of the curriculum in meeting student learning outcomes. • Data Collection and Analysis: Collect and analyze data related to student clinical experiences and academic performance. • Prepare reports and presentations on program outcomes. • Identify areas for improvement and implement changes as needed.

Professional Development

• Encourage preceptors and faculty to participate in professional development activities. • Provide support and resources for professional development.

Teaching Responsibilities

• Provide instruction in the various courses offered by DSU, as well as other relevant courses as needed. • Teaching effectiveness includes:

  1. Teach assigned class loads of 18 credits per year in courses matching the faculty member's areas of expertise.
  2. Make appropriate preparations for the semester including syllabus preparation, preparation of lecture and/or studio materials, preparation of tests and assignments as needed/appropriate, revise course materials when needed, and provide measurable objectives for student performance.
  3. Act as a professional role model to students.
  4. Communicate effectively with students.
  5. Arrive at class punctually and use class time effectively.
  6. Stay current in field of expertise.
  7. Be available to and provide assistance to students.
  8. Perform other teaching duties as assigned or noted by supervisor.

Physical Demands

• The individual in this position is expected to participate in scholarly activities and self-improvement. • These activities may include, but are not limited to:

  1. Evaluation and selection of materials for classroom activities.
  2. Professional reading and/or research for self-improvement and effectiveness.
  3. Continuing education, including experiential learning.
  4. Professional exhibition of creative work and/or publishing in the outlets of professional organizations.

COMPENSATION PACKAGE:
