Clinical Assistant Professor, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Position
The Conway School of Nursing at The Catholic University of America (CUA) seeks a full-time benefits-eligible Clinical Assistant Professor, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner position to begin in August 2026.
About the CSON
The CSON is distinguished for preparing expert clinicians, nurse scientists, and leaders. The CSON is CCNE accredited and has over 450 students enrolled in BSN, MSN, DNP, and PhD programs. Ranked in the top 8th percentile by U.S. News and World Report, the online DNP programs prepare acute and primary care pediatric nurse practitioners, family nurse practitioners, and adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioners. Post-graduate APRN certification program tracks are also available. The online DNP program approved for post-masters and post-baccalaureate pathways focuses on leadership in advanced nursing practice. The online PhD program prepares expert clinicians as nurse scientists.

Faculty Responsibilities
As a CUA faculty member, you will gain multiple benefits, including:

Faculty responsibilities include:
- Teaching onsite and distance courses at the undergraduate and graduate level with primary responsibilities in the undergraduate program
- Teaching students on campus in clinical laboratory and simulation settings
- Developing written syllabi and all course materials, evaluating knowledge of subject matter taught, preparing and grading exams and monitoring students academic achievement
- Utilizing course materials effectively, demonstrating thorough knowledge of content
- Maintaining academic standards and course expectations throughout each course
- Maintaining and enhancing knowledge of subject matter taught and individual training skills required to remain current with new trends and developments in nursing
- Following best practices for online education
- Implementing non-traditional and innovative methods of instruction to foster critical thinking
- Using effective interpersonal leadership and organizational skills to teach in the curriculum
- Participating in student advisement and academic counseling
- For any student not performing successfully, providing feedback and developing and individualized remediation plan
- Contributing to the ongoing development of the academic programs through course revisions and refinements and implementation of formative and summative evaluation processes
- Participating in development, implementation, and evaluation of objectives and goals for the academic programs
- Participating in CSON and university committees and activities
- Maintaining an active license as a nurse practitioner in Washington, D.C.
Qualifications
To be considered for this position, you must:
- Earned doctoral degree (PhD or DNP certification) as a psychiatric nurse practitioner, plus 2-5 years of experience working as a nurse practitioner
- Eligible for a Washington, D.C. advanced practice license
- Nationally board certified as a nurse practitioner, family nurse practitioner certification preferred
- One to two years teaching experience in a baccalaureate program
- Proficiency using online learning platforms, clinical coordination software, and learning management systems
- Experience conducting screen-based and in-person telehealth and on-campus simulations for nurse practitioner students
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Able to work collaboratively and productively with colleagues
