This surgical floor is a 30-bed General Surgical Unit with patients ranging in age from newborn up. Patients are from the following services: General Surgery, and other surgical sub-specialties. Patients originate from the PACU, MICU, NICU, direct admits and through the Emergency Room. Our Surgical teams work within the concept of family-centered care, with diagnoses that range from simple to complex. It is an exciting place to learn and grow professionally as innovations in all of our programs (i.e. Intestinal Failure, Esophageal Atresia) remain our on-going challenge and commitment.
Key Responsibilities:- Under the supervision of the registered nurse the Clinical Assistant (CA) will help provide competent care for pediatric surgical patients.
- In collaboration with the registered nurse, the CA is responsible for obtaining vital signs including oxygen saturation measurements, measuring intake and output, performing EKGs, and obtaining and labeling laboratory specimens; all while identifying and reporting unusual findings or changes in patient condition to the registered nurse.
- The CA may assist with transporting patients, stocking of supplies and equipment as needed.
- The CA role provides the opportunity to practice in a family centered environment.
Minimum QualificationsEducation:A HS Diploma or equivalent.
Experience:- 1-year CA experience, CNA certification, or Nursing Student with at least one clinical rotation.
- Good communication skills.
- The ability to work within a team.
- The ability to work a schedule of 12-hour shifts, 36 hours/week, day/night rotation, every third weekend
