Description

The Student Health Center is accepting applications for its Clinic Staff Nurse position. The Clinic Staff Nurse (a licensed practical nurse) who provides nursing care and is also responsible for ensuring that all laboratory testing performed in-house for Covid19 and other infectious diseases are conducted, properly recorded and reported in accordance with current state laws and university policies.

Examples of Duties

  • Obtain health histories, measure vital signs, perform basic nursing assessments for patient illnesses.

  • Administer medications, give injections and record results in patients electronic record.

  • Assist clinicians with physical examinations and educate patients on procedures.

  • Assist with the nursing assessment of any patient who presents to the clinic who is deemed to have an emergency and communicate with staff physician or nurse practitioner.

  • Collect biological samples by venipuncture, fingerstick, nasal/throat swabs or urine and perform in-house laboratory tests on samples.

  • When necessary, package samples for shipment to outside laboratories per clinic protocol.

  • Maintain an accurate log of all persons tested, including for Covid19, influenza and other communicable diseases and prepare reports to applicable health agencies when reporting of certain diseases are required by law or school policy.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

  • Graduate of an approved Licensed Practical Nursing program, has passed State Board examinations and possess an unrestricted license by the Mississippi Board of Nursing.

  • Must have not less than 10 years experience in nursing care and outpatient laboratory procedures.
