Client Support Coordinator

GENERAL STATEMENT:

While this position specifies responsibilities, requirements and duties in certain operational areas, this person is an employee at will of Independent Living Services and will be expected to respond to such requests not specifically contained herein. This person must maintain the attitude that he/she works for the total organization, and as such, exhibit proper cooperation, enthusiasm and interest in all areas deemed necessary for the continuing success of ILS programs. Knowledge of the ILS Policy and Personnel Manuals is required.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Client Support Coordinator provides direct services to individuals served by ILS. This person works directly under the supervision of the Director of Profiles. The BA will be part of a team of consumers, service professionals, family members, and others identified in the Service Plan/Individual Program Plan (IPP). The BA will provide services including supervision, training, assistance and support in identified areas of need as outlined in the IPP. A positive relationship with all individuals served, their family and guardians, fellow ILS staff, and others is vitally important to ensuring positive outcomes. The Behavioral Assistant is a full-time (40 hours/week), Monday-Friday position. ILS reserves the right to adjust employment hours and days of operation based upon requirements to fulfill contract obligations.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

General duties and guiding principles:

  • Serve as a first point of contact for consumers and staff prior to or when behavioral incidents occur
  • Act as a liaison between day program enrollees and staff when identifying breakdowns in communication
  • Train and update day program staff on the changing behavioral needs of consumers as needed
  • Counsel consumers on appropriate actions and reactions to behavioral stimuli in a group or one-on-one setting
  • Lead a weekly or bi-weekly discussion period with consumers identified as at-risk or in need of skill growth
  • Follow up on instances of behavioral issues to determine need for further action

Job Duties and Responsibilities for Client Support Coordinator:

  • Review and identify potential behavioral areas of concern for all incoming day program enrollees
  • Create and maintain 1 sheet summaries of consumer behavioral outlook and provide appropriate replacement behaviors for ones (also include short demographic, health and cultural concerns). Summaries should include environmental concerns or identified triggers.
  • Observe consumers on breaks and/or at lunch times to determine social groupings
  • Intervene in social interactions where appropriate and assist consumers with typical interactions
  • Suggest modifications to classroom or public area set up to mitigate negative behavioral outlooks for individuals or groups
  • Provide a quiet space or area for individuals who are experiencing overstimulation during the regular schedule
  • Facilitate volunteer opportunities for program enrollees to give back to community (e.g. Knitting for Noggins, Soda Tab Collection, Infant Memory Boxes)
  • Seek community partners to offer classes or mini-workshops (e.g.yoga)

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Five years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities. Behavioral management experience required. Classroom experience will be considered

HIRING QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Arkansas driver's license.
  • Ability to safely operate any and all vehicles, business machines, and industrial equipment necessary for the successful operation of the program.
  • Proof of current vehicle liability insurance.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Maintain current CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Successfully complete a minimum of 12 hours continuing education and training in topics relative to the position annually.
  • Ability to observe and record programming and behavioral data.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with staff and consumers verbally or utilizing other effective means.
  • Experience in areas of employment directly related to the performance of this job as included in the above "Job Duties and Responsibilities" is preferred.
