This position supports our Small to Mid-Sized Business (SMB) clients, including non-profit organizations, and offers the opportunity to further develop leadership skills and contribute to business development efforts. You will work across a portfolio of clients in a dynamic environment, balancing hands-on accounting ownership, client relationship management, and engagement leadership.

Key Responsibilities

This role manages a portfolio of SMB clients as a Client Service Lead, while also providing direct client service delivery.

Client Service Lead

  • Lead a portfolio of SMB clients as the primary relationship owner (typically 12–16 accounts)
  • Oversee client engagements from onboarding through ongoing delivery
  • Ensure quality, timeliness, and alignment with both client expectations and Acclarity standards
  • Lead, mentor, and support team members across engagements
  • Partner with internal teams to align resources and enable delivery success
  • Identify and drive opportunities to expand services within existing client relationships
  • Manage inbound sales leads by qualifying opportunities, assessing client needs, and defining scope of work aligned to deliver meaningful impact

Client Service Delivery

  • Provide Controller and CFO-level consulting support, with exposure to FP&A as needed
  • Act as a trusted advisor to CEOs, CFOs, and business owners on financial and operational matters
  • Take an active, hands-on role in performing and reviewing accounting work across engagements
  • Own and support core accounting functions, including:
    • Month-end close
    • Financial reporting
    • Day-to-day accounting operations
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data and reporting
  • Improve accounting processes, reporting structures, and internal controls
  • Apply Acclarity best practices to drive consistency and quality across engagements

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is hands-on, adaptable, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced client environment. You are someone who enjoys rolling up your sleeves while also building strong client and team relationships.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 7–12+ years of progressive experience in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • Prior experience as a CFO, Controller, Assistant Controller, or hands-on accounting leader in SMB or mid-market companies
  • Strong experience managing:
    • Month-end close and financial reporting
    • Day-to-day accounting operations
    • Process improvement and optimization, including internal controls
  • Ability to manage multiple clients or priorities simultaneously
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP
  • Experience with QuickBooks Desktop, QuickBooks Online, and/or similar systems used by SMB organizations
  • Experience working with integrated applications and third-party tools supporting accounting and operations (e.g., Bill, Shopify, Ramp)
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA strongly preferred
  • Public accounting or audit background (helpful for audit readiness)
  • Prior consulting experience (with hands-on execution)
  • Experience improving accounting processes and internal controls and implementing scalable solutions

Additional Expectations

  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic, client-driven environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain client relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and adapt to changing client needs
  • Willingness to travel as needed to support client engagements
