Job Responsibilities

What is the function of the Clerk's Office – Courtside, do you ask? The Clerk of the Court in Kent County Circuit Court is responsible for maintaining records of all lawsuits filed, including civil actions where damages exceed $25,000, family matters such as divorce, paternity, custody, and support, and felony cases. The Clerk's office also collects payments for fines, costs, and restitution ordered in criminal matters. Court files are public records and can be inspected at the Clerk's office. The Clerk II provides a variety of clerical support functions in the County Clerk's Court Office. The successful candidate will maintain files in accordance with established protocols. This position receives and reviews filings for statutory requirements and dockets pleadings. This position works with prosecutors, attorneys, probation officers, judicial staff, and law enforcement agencies to provide information on criminal, civil, and family division pleadings. A major function of this position is working with the public and on the telephone, to provide public information on the status of cases, court operations, and court procedures. This position will be actively involved in the county's e-filing system (KentCourt e-File and the Webtecs filing portal), OnBase, and CourtView.

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduate or GED and one year of clerical experience. An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered. Requires skill in filing, maintaining office records, and operating various office equipment. Must be self-motivated, organized, detail-oriented, and proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook applications. Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with diverse populations are essential.
