Job Description:
Greenwich Public Schools seeks a full-time Spanish teacher for one or more GPS elementary schools.
Position Purpose
The ideal candidate will understand the growth and development of the elementary school child, be able to plan and deliver grades K-5 Spanish lessons accordingly, and help students learn subject matter and skills that will broaden their learning experiences.
Essential Responsibilities
- Helps elementary school students develop oral and literacy skills aligned to the World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages and to District curriculum.
- Plans and organizes instruction in ways that maximize student learning.
- Modifies, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Uses technology, where appropriate, to deliver instruction and assessment.
- Evaluates student performance consistent with District standards.
- Maintains accurate records.
- Works collaboratively with District and school colleagues to support students linguistic needs in Spanish.
- Participates in professional learning.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, in both English and the target language.
- Effective, active listening skills.
- Ability to work effectively with others.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working with elementary school students preferred.
Qualifications Profile
- CT State Certification, or certifiability, in Spanish, Grades 7-12 (#023) or in elementary education required
