Special Education Teacher - Grades 8 - 12

Full Time: Academic Calendar (185 School days) w/ option for additional hours 7/6 - 8/6/2026

ACCESS Middle and High School ~ Danbury, CT

Position is open until filled

ACCESS Middle & High School is a grade 8-12 outplacement program for students receiving special education services who experience emotional, social and behavioral obstacles. The school offers small class sizes and high staff to student ratios to provide the supervision, instruction and individualized feedback to help students grow academically and personally. Students at ACCESS Middle & High School receive integrated behavioral and academic instruction from a multi-disciplinary team of certified content and special education teachers, school social worker and counselor, BCBA and registered behavior technicians.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provide academic instruction and support for students who are enrolled in an outplacement educational program, serving students with social-emotional difficulties and communication and behavior challenges
  • Develop measurable IEP goals and objectives and participate in progress monitoring
  • Complete comprehensive achievement evaluations and written report to propose services and instructional needs
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies to engage and motivate students
  • Continuously collaborate with school team members to ensure fidelity of learner expectations across the school environment
  • Utilize restorative practices to help students regulate their behavior, develop perspective-taking, and take personal responsibility for their actions
  • Other duties as may be assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Special Education procedures and regulations
  • Desire to work with students who struggle with regulating behavior and social emotional responses
  • Experience in all modules of CT-SEDS
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate flexibility in response to unpredictability of student academic and behavioral needs

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Active Connecticut Certification in Special Education (Endorsement #: 065, 165 or 265)
  • Preference for those with experience teaching or interest in English Language Arts
  • Ability to withstand the physical demands of frequent standing, bending, kneeling and therapeutic holding as required
  • Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this job
