POSITION: Special Education Teacher for The Learning Center

LOCATION OF ASSIGNMENT: The Learning Center, 2 Barton Hill Road, East Hampton, CT 06424

ANTICIPATED STARTING DATE: August 2026

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

  • The Special Education Teacher at The Learning Center (TLC) serves as the primary academic lead for an alternative high school program serving up to twelve students from the East Hampton and East Haddam communities. This role is designed for a dedicated educator who excels in a highly collaborative, small-group environment focused on students with social and/or emotional concerns.
  • Facilitate academic progress through a blend of an on-line learning platform (computer-based instruction), group lessons, and specially designed courses modified to meet each students unique learning style.
  • Manage and implement student IEPs, ensuring all accommodations and modifications are met to foster personal and academic growth.
  • Partner with a School Social Worker and a Paraeducator to create a cohesive support team.

Salary Range: based on teachers' contractual rate

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The ideal candidate will possess empathy for students facing social and emotional challenges and a commitment to excellence as part of the East Hampton Public Schools team.
  • Certification: Valid Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) certification in Special Education (065, 165, or equivalent).
  • Proficiency in managing multi-subject, self-paced learning environments; experience with digital learning platforms (computer-based instruction) is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of social-emotional learning (SEL) and the ability to work closely with the school social worker to address student needs.
