QUALIFICATIONS: A) A valid special education certificate issued by the Connecticut State Department of Education.
- Experience in the field as the Board of Education and Administration may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Principal and/or designee
JOB GOAL:
To implement the schools special education program and provide the necessary remedial and consultative services required for children referred to the program.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attends Planning and Placement Team meetings on all children who might, or who do, qualify for such special services.
- Completes diagnostic testing recommended by the Planning and Placement Team and necessary pre-and post-testing on children included in the program.
- Develops and implements an Individualized Educational Program for each Special Education student included in the program as a special education student.
- Maintains records on all children referred for such special services.
- Acts a consultant, and serves as a resource person for administrators, teachers, and parents in regard to specific students who demonstrate learning disabilities and/or significant learning difficulties.
- Interprets the Special Education Program to staff, parents, and community.
- Assists Director of Special Education in the interpretation of information concerning and making recommendations for Special Education children placed outside of the public schools, as indicated.
- Assists Director of Special Education and Superintendent of Schools in development of policies relative to the Resource Program.
- Supervises and evaluates Special Education teacher aides directly involved in the Special Education Program.
- Assists building principal in developing an annual budget for the Special Education Program.
- Carries out other duties related to the Resource Program as assigned by the Director of Special Education.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month position.
EVALUATION: Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Boards Policy 4115.
