Current comprehensive special education (165) Connecticut teaching certificate required

IEP data collection knowledge

Working knowledge of CTSEDS

Elementary school special education experience preferred

Desire to work as part of a team with a dedicated group of professionals

East Haddam Elementary School is seeking a dynamic special educator to join our team starting in the 2026-2027 school year. The selected candidate will provide individualized instruction aligned with IEP goals for students in grades K-3 within a structured and supportive classroom environment. Instruction will be guided by ongoing data collection and progress monitoring to ensure student growth, with a focus on developing foundational reading and math skills through engaging, evidence-based practices. The teacher will implement positive behavior supports tailored to individual student needs and demonstrate a strong understanding of developing, implementing, and monitoring IEPs. Responsibilities also include administering and interpreting assessments to inform instruction and collaborating closely with general education teachers, related service providers, and families to support each students success.

Responsibilities include:

Provide specially designed instruction aligned with each students Individualized Education Program (IEP)

Develop, implement, and monitor IEP goals and objectives

Deliver instruction in early literacy, numeracy, and functional academic skills using evidence-based practices

Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning, developmental, and behavioral needs

Collect, analyze, and use student data to inform instruction and track progress

Implement positive behavior supports and individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs)

Create and maintain a structured, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment

Administer and interpret academic and diagnostic assessments

Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusion and access to grade-level curriculum

Work closely with related service providers (e.g., speech, occupational therapy, counseling)

Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, needs, and strategies for support

Prepare and maintain accurate documentation, including IEPs, progress reports, and service logs

Participate in PPT/IEP meetings and contribute to team decision-making

Adapt and modify curriculum materials to meet student needs

Support the development of social-emotional, communication, and independent living skills

Ensure compliance with state and federal special education regulations

Supervise and collaborate with paraprofessionals and support staff

QUALIFICATIONS

Current comprehensive special education (165) Connecticut teaching certificate required

IEP data collection knowledge
