Job Description

Position Summary: Reading Interventionists work directly with students primarily grades K-4 to strengthen targeted reading and writing skills and support academic growth. Using data-driven decision making they design and deliver rigorous research-based instruction to accelerate student learning and close skill gaps. Reading Interventionists collaborate with classroom teachers and school staff to analyze student data plan effective interventions and monitor progress. They also provide expertise in literacy instruction and participate in collaborative planning intervention and student support meetings.

Essential Functions

Implement structured literacy instruction grounded in the science of reading including explicit systematic instruction in phonemic awareness phonics fluency vocabulary and comprehension.

Use evidence-based instructional practices to provide targeted reading intervention and supports aligned with student needs and district curriculum.

Assess students regularly using screening diagnostic and progress monitoring tools to inform instruction and intervention decisions.

Collect organize monitor and analyze student data to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and adjust instruction accordingly.

Collaboratively group students strategically based on demonstrated reading needs and provide targeted small-group instruction.

Design and maintain a student-centered intervention schedule that maximizes access to support while minimizing disruption to core instruction.

Participate effectively in Data Teams facilitating data discussions helping teams interpret literacy data and supporting instructional planning.

Collaborate with classroom teachers and grade-level teams to align intervention strategies with classroom instruction and support student progress.

Maintain strong organizational systems to manage student caseload maintain intervention records and report data in a timely and accurate manner.

Communicate and collaborate with district literacy leadership to ensure consistency of practices alignment with district goals and implementation of district literacy initiatives.

Participate in professional learning and contribute to the continuous improvement of the districts literacy programming.

Collaborate with reading tutors.

Support effective implementation of technology related to literacy e.g. Lexia Raz-Kids and STAR.

Work with the Office of Teaching and Learning staff and reading consultants across the district.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisors.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze student assessment data and implement effective instructional practices to develop and recommend strategic improvements.
  • Knowledge of best practices in pedagogy and the Science of Reading.
  • Ability to make independent judgments within areas of responsibility.
  • Ability to concentrate on details with some interruption pressure and changing priorities.
  • Strong collaborative skills to build and maintain high-functioning relationships with all stakeholders and professionals.
  • Maintain a stationary position for extended periods to operate a computer printer telephone and other desktop equipment.
  • Move about the school to teach and participate in meetings.

Supervisory Requirements None

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education or related field of Education.
  • Masters Degree in Remedial Reading and Language Arts or Sixth Year Certificate in Reading.
  • Experienced in data analysis intervention and small group instruction.
