Job Description:

Position Purpose:

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the Physical Education & Health Teacher will facilitate student success by implementing district-approved curriculum, delivering instruction aligned to standards, differentiating to meet individual student needs, and fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.

This position can be either .6 FTE (3 days per week) or a FULL TIME position shared with Scotland Elementary School.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelors degree with CT Certification in Health (043), Pre-K through 12, and Physical Education (044), Pre-K through Grade 12.
  • Previous teaching experience with elementary/middle school-aged children is preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with administrators, teachers, parents, and students.
  • Evidence of organizational ability and willingness to pursue tasks to successful completion.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills and proficiency with instructional technology

Candidates eligible for DSAP or other interim pathways are encouraged to apply.

Plan, create and deliver daily PE and health lesson plans that are rigorous and aligned to state standards, while fostering fun and high level of interest for students.

  • Introduce elements of strength, endurance and flexibility into physical education teaching and activities;
  • Provide multimodal and differentiated instruction using a variety of teaching methods to meet the needs of students with diverse learning styles and varying needs/interests;
  • Prepare equipment and materials for physical education activities;
  • Observe, assess and communicate student progress (academic, behavioral, social, physical);
  • Ensure individual well-being and safety is incorporated into teaching and activities;
  • Support student physical fitness assessments at the school, state and national levels, as requested;
  • Actively participate in wide variety of school day and extracurricular events as planned, including activities centered around professional development;
  • Responsibly fulfill additional duties as assigned.

Compensation/Benefits:

  • Pro-Rated per Hampton/Scotland Elementary School Contracts

Requirements:

  • Must maintain confidential information.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must complete all pre-employment requirements before the start date.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and traverse the elementary PE environment
