Job Description: This employee is responsible for implementing the objective of the Smart Start Grant which includes curriculum implementation, interagency coordination, parent education and other activities related to the education of early childhood.
Position Requirements: Bachelors Degree (Masters Preferred) and CT Teaching Certification in at least one of the following:
- 112 Integrated Early Childhood/Special Education, Birth - K
- 113 Integrated Early Childhood/Special Education, N/K through grade 3
- 001 PreK-Grade 8
- 002 PreK-Grade 6
- 003 PreK-Grade 3
- 008 PreK- K
- 065 Comprehensive Special Education PreK-Grade12
Professionalism:
- Maintain confidentiality about issues concerning the children and their families as well as faculty members.
- Maintain professional dress code
- Must report to work on time, have good attendance and communicate with the Program Manager when you will be out or need time off.
Interaction between Faculty and Children/Faculty and Parents:
- Interact frequently, affectionately, and respectfully by smiling and speaking to children in a friendly, calm, soft, courteous manner
- Respect and observe childrens interests. Intervene when needed to maintain safety
- Be available and responsive to childrens needs, questions, and requests.
Physical Environment, Health, Safety, and Nutrition:
- Maintain and follow all safety and health rules of the program
- Supervise children at all times. Demonstrate awareness of the entire group while working with a small group or individuals
- Know the number of children in your group and maintain ratios at all times
- Complete appropriate paperwork ( incident and accident reports)
- Keep activity areas organized and safe
- Be able to lift 40 pounds
Curriculum Implementation:
- Assessing curriculum needs, reviewing existing curriculum and developing curriculum as needed utilizing the Connecticut Early Learning and Development Standards
- Suggesting material modifications and equipment adaptations as needed
- Providing feedback to the building principal/program manager regarding the degree of curriculum implementation
Interagency Coordination:
- Participation on the Smart Start Engagement Council
- Coordinating the efforts of both councils designed to identify the needs of at risk preschoolers
Parent Education:
- Identify support services for parents of at risk children
- Coordinating training in appropriate parenting skills for parents of at risk children
- Identifying activities for parent and child interaction to facilitate the carryover of school activities in the home
Other:
- Developing a transition procedure for preschool students entering kindergarten
- Assisting with development of annual preschool grant application
- Identifying appropriate evaluation instruments for at-risk preschool students
- Attending professional development training to obtain information relative to preschool education
- Assisting with the expansion of preschool programs and services within the district
- Completing required reports and maintaining data
