Job Summary

The educator provides high quality instruction aligned to Common Core State Standards, district strategic goals, and multilingual learner needs. The role creates a rigorous, inclusive, culturally responsive classroom where students are actively engaged, challenged, and supported academically, socially, and emotionally.

Essential Functions

Demonstrates strong content knowledge and connects learning to student experiences. Understands child development and plans age-appropriate instruction. Designs lessons for English learners using second-language acquisition practices. Establishes clear outcomes aligned to curriculum, standards, ELD goals, and district targets. Uses staff resources to strengthen instruction. Applies formative and summative data to diagnose needs, build student profiles, adjust teaching, and select interventions.

Creates a respectful environment and positive culture for learning. Manages procedures to maximize time on task. Implements behavior expectations consistent with schoolwide systems. Communicates clear learning goals and differentiates instruction for all learners. Uses questioning, discussion, and collaborative strategies to engage students, especially multilingual learners. Delivers intellectually stimulating lessons aligned to standards. Provides timely feedback and uses assessment results to guide decisions. Demonstrates flexibility and reflects regularly to improve practice.

Advocates for bilingual students and secures needed supports. Maintains accurate records according to policy. Communicates progress to students and families respectfully and in a culturally responsive manner. Participates in PLCs, meetings, and committees. Pursues professional growth. Demonstrates professionalism, integrity, ethical conduct, punctuality, and reliable attendance.

Assesses student skills in the native language and English. Supports transition from native language instruction to English acquisition. Collaborates with classroom teachers to determine the most appropriate program based on readiness and language development. Partners with parents and community agencies to promote language acquisition and family acculturation to the American education system through local and regional events.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited university. Meets all licensing and endorsement requirements for the assignment. Demonstrated verbal and written proficiency in the designated non-English language. Knowledge of CELP standards and alignment to Common Core. Preference for training in assessments for non-English speaking students, including LAS Links.

Collaborates with teachers to support multilingual learners. Communicates effectively in writing and speech. Demonstrates teamwork and coaching skills. Understands standards-based curriculum. Integrates technology into instruction. Participates in workshops, seminars, conferences, and coursework related to TESOL. Uses differentiated instruction and data-based problem solving.
