Job Description:

Description: The 7-12 instructional specialist supports teachers in planning and implementation of units designed to address critical content standards, prioritize student thinking, and ensure progress towards the district Vision of the Learner. The specialist collaborates with building leaders, three K-12 content specialists (literacy, math, and science), and the assistant superintendent in planning and delivering traditional and job-embedded professional learning for teachers at the middle school and high school. Interested candidates should have background and experience in secondary instruction and have demonstrated experience collaborating with school and district staff to strengthen curriculum, instruction, assessment, and student engagement. Experience in Artificial Intelligence and technology education preferred.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Coordinate and support the development and implementation of coherent 7-12 curriculum in core subjects
  • Support teachers in writing curriculum units and syllabi aligned with district Vision of the Learner and instructional priorities
  • Coaching of teachers in instructional practice, including adaptive instruction, making thinking visible, and sustaining cognitive load
  • Promote reflection and a positive mindset
  • Ensure the alignment of curriculum and instruction to formative, summative and State assessments across all levels
  • Meet regularly with Asst. Supt., building principals, and K-12 specialists to support curriculum improvement and implementation
  • Collaborate with Instructional Leadership Team leaders (department heads) on Professional Learning Group (department) collaborative time
  • Collaborate with teachers and administration with the goal of increasing student engagement and achievement
  • Coordinate and ensure formative assessment K-12
  • Guide teachers and administrators in reflecting on student work and assessment data to inform planning
  • Support teachers in planning for rigorous instruction and intellectual engagement
  • Support development of Career Pathways at the high school and aligning courses with pathways
  • Model instruction and co-teach
  • Support teachers in use of AI to improve lessons and use of AI as a tool for instruction
  • Collaborate with district AI committee, district "AI Champ" teachers, and Director of Technology to support high-leverage use of AI and other technologies
  • Other responsibilities, as needed, related to curriculum, instruction, and assessment

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years classroom teaching experience required
  • Demonstrated teacher leadership
  • Previous experience working as an instructional coach, specialist, or teacher leader (or equivalent) preferred
  • Teaching experience in the humanities preferred but not required
