We’re pleased to announce an opportunity for the position of Classroom/Kitchen Aide within the Head Start Department.

Location: Chewelah, Colville, Newport, & Kettle Falls, WA

Status: Temporary/On-Call

Offered At: $18.48 - $19.99 per/hr.

Salary Range: $18.48– $49.26 per/hr. (Represents the low and high end of the total salary range for this position)  

Summary

Works under close supervision of education staff to assist in conducting the activities of an early childhood program.  Implements trauma invested practices that support social-emotional learning and self-regulation in the classroom.  Is able to provide a safe environment that includes active supervision of all children under their care. Responsible for food preparation and kitchen duties, which may include shopping.  Housekeeping, cleaning, and maintenance duties required. May also be required to fulfill the role of Bus Monitor in some locations.

Temporary & 24 hrs. or less per week (Part-Time) employees are not eligible for RRCA benefits other than Paid Sick Leave which will accrue at 1 hour per 40 hours worked.

General Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

• Assist teachers with daily classroom activities and supervision, both indoors and outdoors.
• Perform cleaning and maintenance duties, including sanitizing, laundry, and deep cleaning of classrooms and playgrounds.
• Prepare and serve classroom meals, including food prep, cleanup, documentation, and occasional shopping.
• Engage with children during activities, providing individualized attention and following child guidance policies.
• Help organize and prepare classroom materials, ensuring proper setup and storage before and after activities.

Bus Monitor Duties (Essential Functions) 

• Assist children in safely boarding and exiting the bus, including securing them in restraint systems and managing their belongings.
• Supervise and monitor children during the bus route to ensure safety and appropriate behavior.
• Support emergency procedures, including evacuation drills and assisting in actual emergencies.
• Help maintain cleanliness of the vehicle interior to ensure a safe and hygienic environment.
• Communicate transportation-related information with parents, guardians, and staff as needed.

Education & Experience
High School Diploma or GED and preferred one year experience with preschool or elementary school age children.

Required Certification & Licenses
Access to reliable transportation.
Physical examination within three weeks of hire at the employee’s expense.
First Aid and Infant/Child CPR cards within 30 days of hire.
Food Worker’s Card or acquire within 30 days of hire.
Acceptable completion of criminal history check.

Additional Requirements
TB test and proof of test results to employer prior to the start of employment. New employees do not need a TB skin test if they have written proof of one of the following:

1. A negative Mantoux TB test in the twelve months prior to hire; or
2. a previously positive Mantoux TB test with documented proof of treatment; or
3. a recent negative chest X ray and a statement from a health care provider that employee does not pose a health risk to others; or
4. Medication therapy to treat TB.

Documentation of Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) immunization:

• An immunization record indicating that you have received at least one dose
of MMR vaccination (Immunization record card is acceptable only with doctor’s signature/initials or stamp). Or
• Lab evidence of immunity to measles disease (also known as a blood test or titer). Or
• Documentation from a health care provider that the person has had measles disease sufficient to provide immunity against measles.
Or
• Written certification signed by a health care practitioner, licensed in Washington State—a medical doctor (MD), naturopathic doctor (ND), osteopathic doctor (DO), advanced registered nurse practitioner (ARNP) or a physician’s assistant (PA)—that the Measles, Mumps, & Rubella vaccine is, in the practitioner’s judgment, not advisable for you.
